Highvale’s NEW Arts Wellbeing Program: Nurturing Creativity and Connection

Highvale Secondary College is proud to introduce a new Arts Wellbeing initiative. A 13-session extracurricular lunchtime program designed to provide students with a safe, inclusive and creative space to explore their emotions, build resilience and form meaningful connections through the Visual Arts. It will be hosted by Miss B (Brzezek) and other Visual Arts teachers in A4, once a cycle on Fridays (once every fortnight).

Running across Terms 2, 3 and 4, the program supports students’ social and emotional development through structured arts-based experiences. In Term 2, students will participate in a variety of creative arts therapy activities, including guided drawing, painting, collage and mindful mark-making. These sessions are carefully designed to strengthen emotional regulation, encourage healthy self-expression and develop effective stress-management strategies. Through reflective and hands-on processes, students will gain greater personal insight while building their creative voice.

In Term 3, participants will move into a collaborative phase, working together to conceptualise and begin creating a large-scale group artwork. Drawing on the techniques and understandings developed earlier in the program, students will explore shared themes of growth, connection and wellbeing, learning to communicate ideas and support one another through the creative process.

The program will culminate in Term 4 with the presentation of the completed collaborative artwork at the annual DAT Exhibition. This final piece will symbolise collective wellbeing, resilience and connection, celebrating not only students’ artistic achievements but also the relationships formed and the emotional growth nurtured throughout the year.

The Arts Wellbeing Program reflects Highvale’s commitment to supporting the whole student, fostering creativity, strengthening wellbeing and building a connected school community through the power of the Visual Arts.

If you are interested in signing up for the program, please contact Miss B (Brzezek) via email at Bianca.brzezek@education.vic.gov.au. The program will begin on Friday 24th April 2026.

Students need to be committed to all 13 sessions of the program.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send Miss B an email.
