Around the Classrooms

Grade 1/2C
What a wonderful term of learning we have had in 1/2C! The students have enjoyed exploring a range of engaging texts and sharing their thoughts about the stories we have read together as well as learning about patterns in maths.
Grade 1 Reading and Writing
Our Grade 1 students have also enjoyed several wonderful picture books this term. We read The Most Magnificent Thing by Ashley Spires, which inspired conversations about perseverance and resilience. Celeste liked that the main character never gave up, even when she felt she wasn't good enough. Astrella enjoyed how the character continued trying her best despite experiencing setbacks.
The class also read Little Dog and the Summer Holiday by Corinne Fenton and Robin Cowcher. Giana's favourite part was the dog in the story, while Japleen especially enjoyed the beautiful illustrations.
Another popular text was Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty. Abraham liked the part where Iggy was creating and inventing things in his underwear, while Dhanu enjoyed seeing all the different buildings and architectural creations throughout the story.
Grade 2 Reading and Writing
The Grade 2 students have been reading The Shop Train by Josie Wowolla Boyle. Grael and Maxwell particularly enjoyed the illustrations throughout the book and the exciting moment when the shop train arrives in the story.
We also read The Fabulous Friend Machine by Nick Bland. Abigail enjoyed the story because it shared an important message about being careful when talking to strangers. Juliette liked how the story teaches Popcorn the chicken the difference between real friends and fake friends.
Another favourite this term was The Lorax by Dr Seuss. Izaac enjoyed the humour throughout the story, while Jonah's favourite part was when the Once-ler began chopping down the Truffula trees, which led to some thoughtful class discussions about caring for our environment.
Maths
In Math this term, 1/2C has been learning about patterns. Students have explored and created a variety of repeating patterns, including AB, ABC, AABB and AAB patterns. Through hands-on activities, games, and investigations, students have practiced identifying, continuing, and creating their own repeating sequences using colours, shapes, objects, and drawings. Our mathematicians have demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills as they worked to recognise pattern rules and explain their thinking. It has been wonderful to see students growing in confidence as they identify patterns in both the classroom and the world around them. Here are some examples of the fantastic pattern work completed by our students this term!
