South West Slopes National Science and Engineering Challenge
Boorowa Central School students recently represented our school at the South West Slopes National Science and Engineering Challenge, competing against Hennessy Catholic College, Young High School and Henry Lawson High School. Students tackled a range of challenging science and engineering activities that tested their teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Our team performed exceptionally well, finishing in an impressive 3rd place overall. A major highlight of the day was Tommy and Toby's outstanding success in the Bridge Challenge. Not only did they win the competition, but they also designed and built a bridge so strong that it could not be broken, even under the weight of a 10 kg trolley. The organisers commented that this remarkable achievement may only occur around five times across the entire country each year.
All of our students had a great crack at every challenge, demonstrated resilience and teamwork, and represented Boorowa Central School with pride. We congratulate the entire team on their efforts and the outstanding way they conducted themselves throughout the day.

Semester 1 Secondary Sport Wrap-Up
Semester 1 has been another outstanding period for sport at Boorowa Central School, with students proudly representing our school across a wide range of events and competitions.
Our annual Swimming Carnival, Cross Country Carnival and Athletics Carnival were all fantastic days, showcasing participation, sportsmanship and school spirit. We extend our sincere thanks to our parent volunteers who generously gave their time to assist at these events. Your support is greatly appreciated and helps make these days possible.
A standout achievement this semester was our Central Schools Relay Team securing a bronze medal at the CHS Swimming Championships. This was an outstanding result and a testament to the dedication and commitment of our swimmers.
Recently, five Boorowa Central School students qualified for the Western Cross Country Championships. Congratulations to Mylee, Kirsten, Ivy, Kallum and Jordan on this fantastic achievement. We wish them the very best as they compete at the CHS Cross Country Championships in Week 1 of Term 3 on Tuesday 21 July. We know they will do Boorowa Central School proud.
Western Athletics will be held on Friday 31 July (Week 2, Term 3). Students who have qualified have been added to the Compass event for approval. We wish all competitors the best of luck and thank Miss Porch for her ongoing support as both an official and team manager.
Congratulations also to Peter and Phillip, who were selected in the Open Boys Western Rugby Union Team, coached by Mr. Corcoran. Peter performed exceptionally well throughout the championships. Unfortunately, Phillip was unable to take the field due to injury, however he embraced the experience and supported his teammates throughout the tournament. We look forward to seeing what next year brings for both boys in Rugby Union.
Our Girls Rugby League team enjoyed a successful day at the Coota 9s competition earlier this term. The girls bonded well as a team and embraced the opportunity to play Rugby League in a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment.
Touch Football preparations are well underway, with Boorowa Central School hosting the Southern Touch Football Qualifiers on Friday 19 June. Our Under 16s and Opens Boys and Girls teams will compete for a place at the State Finals in Dubbo during Week 7 of Term 3. The Opens teams gained valuable experience earlier in Term 2 when they attended the Western Touch Trials. We wish all players the very best as they prepare for the qualifiers.
Our Under 16s Netball team represented the school proudly at the recent Central Schools Qualifiers in Coolamon this term. While the team was unsuccessful in securing a place in Dubbo, the improvement shown since 2025 has been remarkable. The girls should be extremely proud of their efforts and are looking forward to participating in additional gala days later this year.
Congratulations to our Under 14s and Under 16s Rugby League teams, who have qualified for the Central Schools Finals in Dubbo after winning two of their three matches at the recent qualifiers in Coolamon. To prepare for the finals, both teams will attend a Small Schools Rugby League Carnival next week. Families are reminded to approve the Compass event as soon as possible.
This semester we saw many students go beyond their comfort zone and trial for Western sporting teams in their chosen sports- Jordan- Open Boys Basketball and Open Boys Rugby League, Peter & Phillip- Open Boys Rugby Union, Kirsten & Belinda- Girls Rugby League.
We thank all students, staff, coaches, managers and families for their ongoing support of school sport. We are incredibly proud of the commitment, resilience and sportsmanship displayed by our students throughout Semester 1 and look forward to another exciting term of sporting success.

Year 7 Art
Our Year 7 Visual Arts students have been busy developing their printmaking skills this year, creating a colourful and vibrant collection of lino prints inspired by bugs; insects, spiders, snails and other creatures.
Students began by designing and carving their own lino blocks before learning how to print using a range of different techniques. Each student then transformed their original print into a series of artworks, including a coloured, hand-coloured in, collaged, multi-coloured, background and reduction print.
Throughout the project, students explored colour, pattern, composition and creative problem-solving while developing their technical printmaking skills. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they experimented with different ideas and discovered how one design can be transformed into many unique artworks.
We are incredibly proud of the creativity, persistence and effort the Year 7 students have shown and look forward to sharing more of their artistic achievements throughout the year.
These will be on display later in the year.

Back in the Kitchen
It has been wonderful to be back at school after being away for the first seven weeks of Term 2, and I have certainly returned straight into the action! There has been a fantastic buzz around the kitchen, with students across a range of year groups enthusiastically developing their practical skills and enjoying the opportunity to create and share some delicious dishes.
Our SAK primary classes have been busy cooking a delicious ANZAC slice, which was a huge hit with students. It has been lovely to see their excitement and growing confidence in the kitchen as they practise following recipes, measuring ingredients and working together. They are looking forward to finishing the term with one final savoury cook over the coming weeks.
Year 8 Technology Mandatory students have been exploring the Australian dairy industry and putting their learning into practice through some tasty dairy-based recipes. Chocolate mousse and creamy chicken pasta have both proved to be very popular additions to the menu, with many students keen to recreate them at home. It has been pleasing to see students making connections between the theory behind food production and the practical applications of dairy products in everyday cooking.
Stage 5 Food Technology students took a step back in time as they created individual Bombe Alaska desserts and baked ANZAC biscuits, with some adding their own creative touch by decorating them with melted chocolate. These practical lessons provided students with the opportunity to explore traditional recipes while refining their food preparation and presentation skills.
Meanwhile, our Year 12 Hospitality students demonstrated their growing practical skills by preparing delicate melting moments filled with passionfruit icing, which disappeared almost as quickly as they were made!
It has certainly been a busy, productive and enjoyable few weeks in the kitchen, and with plenty more cooking still to come over the final two weeks of term, there are many more delicious creations yet to be enjoyed. I look forward to sharing more of our culinary adventures in the next newsletter.

Students Making a Difference
Our Year 11 and 12 students worked tirelessly to prepare over 100 meals as part of the Hilltops Council Full Pantry Project.
Throughout the project, students learned how to prepare meals in large quantities, work effectively as a team, and appreciate the importance of supporting our local community.
The freezer is now fully stocked with cottage pie, chicken Alfredo pasta bake, and chicken meatballs with rice, ready to provide a hot meal to anyone in need. These meals are available to support students, Boorowa Central School families, and members of the wider community.
This is a fantastic initiative, and Boorowa Central School is delighted to be involved. We are incredibly proud of our students for their hard work, generosity, and commitment to helping others.

BOROBI'S MAIL – YEAR 7 VISUAL ARTS
Boorowa Central School is incredibly excited and honoured to have been selected as one of only 20 schools across Australia to participate in the Borobi's Mail Program, an initiative of Commonwealth Games Australia.
Through this unique opportunity, our Year 7 Visual Arts students will help support Australian athletes as they prepare to compete at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, to be held from 23 July to 2 August 2026. Students have been allocated individual athletes and are creating personalised portraits and messages of encouragement to cheer them on throughout their Commonwealth Games journey.
The excitement around the program has been contagious, with many students choosing to spend their break times in the art room working on their portraits. Their dedication, creativity and enthusiasm have been wonderful to see as they work hard to create artworks worthy of the athletes they are supporting.
This project combines creativity, communication and community spirit while celebrating sport, determination and national pride. We are proud to play a small part in supporting our Australian team and are grateful for the opportunity to be involved in such a special national program.
Be sure to watch this space as we introduce the athletes, share the finished portraits and celebrate the connection between our students and Australia's Commonwealth Games Team.
Year 8 Art
Our Year 8 Visual Arts students have been busy bringing their imaginations to life through their Crazy Creatures sculptures. By combining features from different animals, students created unique and inventive creatures using papier-mâché techniques. The results have been fantastic, showcasing creativity, experimentation and plenty of personality!
