Student Reports

Kindergarten to Year 11 semester 1 reports will be released to parents via Compass in week 11. These reports show the academic progress a student has made as well as their effort and application to their learning. The included comments explain in greater detail, what outcomes they have achieved, to what level and how they can improve.

Please read these student reports with your child(ren) so that they understand how they are progressing and how they can continue to progress in all their Key Learning Areas.

Parents will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teacher(s) in the Parent Teacher Interviews in Term 3.

Student behaviour

Currently at Boorowa Central School we are experience higher than normal levels of behaviour choices that are not positive. Some students are choosing to respond with ‘no’ when asked to engage with their learning or simply to meet our minimum expectations. Others try and argue what has been asked or swear at the teacher. Whilst this is not widespread, these behaviours are impacting on the teacher’s ability to teach and the student’s ability to learn. Our discipline procedures are being followed for these students, and will continue to be followed, to ensure that all staff and students can focus on learning.

According to the Department of Education’s ‘Student Code of Conduct’, students must: Respect everyone, Be Responsible and Be Safe.

Below is an excerpt from this Behaviour Code:

Respect everyone

This means being considerate and understanding so everyone feels welcome and included.

I will:

  • listen and speak respectfully
  • let others focus on their learning
  • value and include everyone and treat them fairly
  • care for our school environment
  • wear the school uniform correctly and with pride.

Be responsible

This means being careful with our actions so everyone can learn and get along.

I will:

  • attend school every day I can, arrive to school and class on time, bring what I need, and be ready to learn
  • follow school and class rules and routines
  • use technology safely and for learning
  • complete my schoolwork, try my best and ask for help when I need it
  • help others when I can
  • learn from the mistakes I make and try to improve.

Be safe

This means caring for yourself and others so everyone can be safe in our school.

I will:

  • follow the instructions of teachers and school staff
  • respect others' space, privacy and belongings
  • speak up and ask for help if anyone feels unsafe or is treated unfairly
  • resolve differences calmly and fairly.

To keep everyone safe, I must not:

  • treat anyone unfairly because of who they are or what makes them different from me
  • be violent, hurt, threaten, harass or bully anyone, including through the use of phones, devices, computers, online or social media
  • bring weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol, vapes, e-cigarettes or tobacco to school.

What can parents do to help with behaviour

As you can see from the Behaviour Code above, parents can support their child(ren) to make positive choices here at school. By doing so, this assists your child to gain a quality education and to allow others to learn.

Reinforcing with your child(ren) that the teachers are to be respected as educated professionals and that if an adult gives you an instruction, this is to be followed promptly, without argument, has the potential to show the connection between school and home. Being united as a school community will ensure we can produce highly educated, caring and community minded young adults in the future.

Resolution Room Trial

As a part of the information above, Boorowa Central School will be trialling the use of a resolution room at the beginning of Term 3. This resolution room will be for all students in year 3-12 who are ‘air-ported’ from their classroom for failing to meet the school’s expectations. The Resolution Room will be staffed by members of the leadership team, including Ms Mahoney and myself, during every period and both breaks.

A student who is air-ported from a class will be directed to the Resolution Room to firstly regulate. Then, the student and the leadership staff member will engage in a ‘reflect and resolve’ process before the parent is called and a card placement is made. The student will then work on individual learning tasks for the equivalent of one school day.

If a student does not follow the expectations of the resolution room, they will be suspended.

We aim to implement the Resolution Room as a short term strategy to support all students making positive choices.

Further information will be shared with all families prior to the end of this school term.

Parking on Pudman Street

This continues to be a developing space. I have not had a parking update confirmation from the Hilltops council yet but it would appear that road resealing has been finalised. Painting of the new parking lines will commence soon. I have asked Hilltops council to provide notice of this line marking so the school can help manage the parking of staff and parents during this time.

Preschool Update

The construction of the preschool building is nearing the final stage with a handover meeting scheduled for the upcoming school holidays. In this meeting, members of the Department of Education’s Infrastructure team and the Early Learning Team will inspect the building to ensure that it is built to specification and that there are not defects or issues. Anything identified will be addressed before a final inspection is made and the keys are handed to the school. From this point, our preschool staff will have time to fully furnish the space and plan for service approval.

If you have a 4-year-old child, or will have next year, and are interested in expressing your interest in a preschool placement for the remainder of 2026 or for 2027, please follow the link below:
