Their conduct didn’t go unnoticed, with both umpires and opposing schools commenting on the team’s kindness and positive attitude.
The team’s defensive effort was equally impressive, conceding just one goal across the entire day.Several players stood out for their contributions. Olive W showcased her speed and attacked the ball with real intent, protecting her teammates and sharing great voice. Sienna R was exceptional at reading the play, taking strong marks and delivering quality entries inside 50. Chelsea Walters led superbly as captain, setting the tone and helping create multiple scoring opportunities.
Finally, a big thank you and well done to our Year 10 Sport coaches, Maddy M and Chloe L, whose organisation of the interchange and game-day support were invaluable. Their guidance and expertise made a significant contribution to the team’s success across the day.

Year 10 Sport Coaching - Wheelchair Basketball and MCG Excursion
Blackburn High School’s Year 10 Sport Coaching students recently enjoyed a fantastic excursion to the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, where they participated in a day of learning, reflection and inspiration.
Students had the opportunity to hear from an Olympian, gaining valuable insights into the dedication, resilience and mindset required to perform at the highest level of sport.
A highlight of their program was the chance to explore disability in sport and everyday life through an interactive wheelchair basketball experience. Students were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones as they learned about accessibility, inclusion and the importance of creating sporting environments where everyone can participate and succeed. The experience provided a powerful perspective on the barriers faced by people with disabilities, while showcasing the skill, determination and athleticism required in wheelchair sports.

Year 12 Physical Education Incursion
On Friday, 19 June, METS Performance visited the school to run a VO₂ Max and Wingate Test for our Year 12 Physical Education classes. This practical session allowed students to apply their understanding of acute responses to exercise, energy system, fatigue and recovery, fitness components and assessment of fitness in a real-world testing environment.
Charlie completed the Wingate Test, a 30-second maximal cycling effort designed to assess anaerobic capacity. He achieved an impressive peak power output of 1007 watts and maintained an average power output of 773 watts across the test, with a fatigue index of 42%. Students were able to observe firsthand the rapid depletion of the ATP-PC energy system and the subsequent reliance on the anaerobic glycolysis system to sustain energy production.
Olly completed the VO₂ Max test on a bike. Beginning at 120 watts, the workload increased by 30 watts every three minutes until exhaustion. After 18 minutes total of exercise, Olly reached a maximum workload of 270 watts and recorded an excellent VO₂ max score of 61.5 mL/kg/min, demonstrating a very high level of aerobic fitness for his age group. The test also identified his Lactate Inflection Point was at 210 watts, providing students with a practical example of how increasing exercise intensity influences fatigue and performance.
The Year 12 PE cohort demonstrated excellent subject knowledge throughout the session. Students confidently answered questions, engaged in discussions with the presenter, and asked thoughtful questions that helped deepen their understanding of the concepts being explored.

Boys Netball Teams Advance to Eastern Metropolitan Region
Blackburn High School's boys’ netball program has enjoyed outstanding success, with our Year 7, Year 8 and Senior Boys teams all qualifying for the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Championships.
Our Year 7 team, made up of many students who are new to the game, showed tremendous growth throughout the day. Their teamwork, determination and willingness to learn saw them improve with every match, finishing the competition undefeated.
The Year 8 boys entered the Whitehorse competition as the 2025 State Champions and continued their impressive form. They recorded convincing victories against Koonung Secondary College, East Doncaster Secondary College and Box Hill Senior Secondary College to remain unbeaten.
Our Senior Boys team, now highly experienced in the sport, faced the challenge of several positional changes and the addition of new players following the departure of some team members to other schools. Despite these changes, the team adapted superbly and completed a clean sweep of their opposition, demonstrating their skill, resilience and depth.
Congratulations to all players on their excellent performances. We wish all three teams the very best as they represent Blackburn High School at the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Championships early next term.
Ms. Roche

Year 9 Duke of Ed
We would like to acknowledge and celebrate the impressive efforts of our Year 9 Duke of Ed students who recently took the lead in planning and organising a range of lunchtime activities for our Year 7 students. The events, designed to foster community spirit and connectedness, was a resounding success, featuring a variety of engaging activities such fruit and cookie art, basketball skill challenges, Mega volleyball, pool noodle fencing and more. These activities provided a fun and inclusive space for years 7 & 9 students to connect, be active and enjoy some healthy competition.
By targeting multiple dimensions of health and wellbeing, from physical activity to social interaction, the Year 9s created a fun and supportive environment for Year 7s. We are proud of the leadership, creativity, and teamwork displayed by our Year 9 students and the positive impact they have made on their younger peers. This event highlights the power of student-led initiatives in promoting wellbeing and fostering a sense of community within our school.
