Student Learning - 3/4

In 3/4C we worked on information reports on the history of the Indigenous flag.

In 34O, we have been using our unit on Data to get to know each other even better! We developed survey questions to collect categorical data on our classmates. Some of these questions led to

some heated (but healthy!) debate over preferred foods, books, colours and sports. We then used our data to create displays such as pictographs, bar graphs, pie graphs and some of us even attempted to invent our own kinds of data displays!

Year 3/4 students have been busy developing their information report writing skills. After collaboratively writing an information report on the Australian Indigenous Flag as a class, students have now begun researching and writing their own reports on a topic of personal interest.

Following the writer’s process, students have been identifying topics and sub-topics, generating research questions, gathering information, and organising their ideas into the structure of an information report. They have also been learning how to incorporate a range of non-fiction text features, including photographs, captions, labelled diagrams, glossaries, and sub-headings, to enhance their writing. It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm students have shown towards researching their chosen topics and we look forward to seeing their finished pieces in the coming weeks."
