World's Greatest Shave
Thank you to the Trinity community for supporting the 83 students and 4 staff who took part in the World's Greatest Shave. As a team, we were able to raise $121,618.00 for the Leukaemia Foundation, placing Trinity College 2nd in WA and 7th in Australia for donations raised. A special shoutout to Levi Braunstein who led the way with donations, raising close to $6,500 by himself.

WADL Make Up Rounds Update!
On Wednesday and Thursday night this week, our Trinity Senior Team and Junior (Year 9) Team debated at Perth Modern School and Mt Lawley Senior High School respectively during the WADL Make-Up Rounds. These were the final two debates for both teams and we were delighted to come away with victories on both nights!
Firstly, on Wednesday, the Senior team, comprising of Arnav Dakhane (12.1), Bowie McCabe (12.7) and Edward McLean (11.6) debated against opponents from Guildford Grammar School. Their topic was: This house regrets the use of stereotypes to represent minority groups in 2010s movies/ television (e.g. Mitch and Cam in Modern Family, Raj in the Big Bang Theory).
Both teams presented strong arguments revolving around the impact of stereotypes and identity formation for minority groups as well as the potential perpetuation of harmful social perceptions as a result. With some rousing Points of Information presented and a convincing team case, the boys were able to secure the win for their final debate.
On Thursday evening, the Junior Year 9 team of Hasan Mirza (9.7), Alex Perry (9.1) and Blessmore Matemara (9.7) debated against Shenton College on the negative side. Their motion was: This house regrets the increasing reliance on nostalgia in contemporary music e.g. artists referencing 80s music, the y2k aesthetic. Despite not having a strong working knowledge of the music from those eras, the boys were still able to present thoughtful arguments about the power of music to connect generations and the evolving nature of the industry, which continually draws on sounds and inspiration from the past to exciting new genres. Both teams presented compelling points for their sides, and with some challenging and engaging POIs thrown into the mix, Trinity’s Junior Team ultimately emerged victorious. Special mention must go to Blessmore Matemara who did an admirable job speaking at his first debate – well done!
These two debates conclude the main WADL competition for 2026. We now await news of whether any of our Trinity teams have progressed to the Finals. Well done to all the boys who have actively participated in Debating this Semester – it has been a pleasure to support all your efforts with preparing for and participating in debates throughout this season.
