Junior School Music
Music is far more than entertainment; it is a powerful tool that enhances brain function, supports learning, and nurtures emotional wellbeing. Research consistently shows that engaging with music, whether playing an instrument, singing, or listening, has profound benefits for cognitive development and overall mental health.
Music stimulates multiple areas of the brain, particularly those responsible for memory, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Students who actively engage in music often demonstrate improved concentration, stronger language skills, and enhanced spatial reasoning. These gains contribute significantly to both memory and overall cognitive ability.
Importantly, music also plays a vital role in emotional development. It has a unique capacity to influence mood, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and feelings of being overwhelmed. Music provides students with a valuable outlet for self-expression and relaxation. Whether listening or performing, musical engagement can increase dopamine levels, promote motivation, positivity, and a sense of wellbeing.
Over the past two weeks, we have had the pleasure of celebrating and showcasing the many musical talents within our Junior School. Both the Junior School Music Night and the Year 4 Strings Concert provided wonderful opportunities to recognise the dedication, perseverance and teamwork demonstrated by each boy who performed.
At each event, the audience was deeply impressed by the high standard of performance. The talent and commitment displayed by our Junior Vocal Ensemble, Strings Ensemble, and Brass groups continue to inspire. Equally commendable was the effort shown by our Year 4 and Years 5/6 Choirs and the Year 4 Strings ensembles. For many boys, these performances marked their very first time on stage after only six months of learning an instrument - an outstanding achievement.
These successes are made possible through the ongoing support of our parents and the dedication of our highly skilled music staff, led by Mrs Ann Clarke. Ann’s passion and enthusiasm for music in the Junior School are truly infectious, and we thank her sincerely for her tireless work.
God Bless,
Mr James McPherson

Year 4 Hockey Carnival
Yesterday, our Year 4 students showcased their amazing skills at the hockey carnival, putting into action everything they’ve learned during their Thursday afternoon workshops. It was fantastic to see their confidence and teamwork shine on the field. A huge thank you to the Modernians Hockey Club for their expert coaching and support leading up to the event, and to all the parents who helped manage the teams on the day. Your encouragement made a big difference in making the carnival a fun and memorable experience for the boys.
Camp Craft
Our Camp Craft co-curricular group has enjoyed a fantastic term, with the boys developing valuable outdoor skills, teamwork, and confidence throughout the program. Camp Craft has now concluded for the term, and we thank all participants for their enthusiasm and commitment and Mr James Quin for his efforts in running the club.
If your son is interested in Camp Craft and has not previously participated, please keep an eye out for the sign-up link that will be distributed via Clipboard at the end of next week.
