Year 12 News

The Year 12 trials ended in what felt like the blink of an eye. After years of hearing that trials were harder than the HSC, many of us finally understood what that meant. The weeks of revision, endless notes, practice papers, assignments and early mornings seemed to pass almost instantly. One moment, we were preparing for our first trial, and the next, we were walking out of our final exam, wondering how we had already reached this point.

For our Year 12 cohort at Beverly Hills Girls High School, the trials were more than just a series of examinations. They were a reminder of just how demanding this final year has been. Balancing assessments, homework, revision, extracurricular commitments, friendships, family and our own health and wellbeing was not always easy. There were moments when the workload felt overwhelming and moments when we questioned whether we were doing enough.

Yet, despite the pressure, we kept going.

We learnt to organise our studies, manage our time and prioritise what mattered. We learnt that taking a break was not a sign of weakness, and that asking for help was not something to be ashamed of. Most importantly, we learnt the importance of having a positive attitude, even when things did not go the way we had hoped. There were difficult days, disappointing marks and moments of stress, but each challenge taught us something about ourselves.

Looking back, perhaps the most memorable part of Year 12 will not be the exams themselves. It will be the people who made the difficult days a little easier. The friends who stayed up studying with us, the classmates who shared notes, the teachers who answered the same question for the tenth time, and the small moments of laughter in between the stress. These are the memories that we will carry with us.

As a Year 12 cohort, we have grown tremendously. We entered high school as younger students who were still figuring out who we were, and now we are standing at the beginning of a completely new chapter. It is strange to think that the classrooms, corridors, bells, assemblies and familiar faces that have been such a huge part of our everyday lives will soon become memories.

We would also like to give a heartfelt thank you to the incredible and dedicated Mathematics faculty for everything they have done for the Year 12 Mathematics students. Their support extended far beyond the classroom. They gave up their recesses, lunches and free periods to provide additional lessons, answer questions and help us prepare for the challenges ahead.

In particular, we would like to acknowledge Mr Sharma for his continuous dedication and support, and Mr Wu, who generously sacrificed his free periods to support Miss Donohue’s Advanced Mathematics class while she was on leave. Their commitment, patience and willingness to give their personal time to students is something our cohort will always appreciate. Their support reminded us that behind every lesson and every exam is a teacher who genuinely wants to see their students succeed.

The trials have taught us that success is not always measured by a number on a piece of paper. Sometimes, success is simply getting through a difficult week. Sometimes, it is finding the motivation to start studying when you feel exhausted. Sometimes, it is encouraging a friend who is struggling while you are struggling too. And sometimes, it is looking back and realising that you made it through something you once thought you could not.

As we move towards the HSC, there is undoubtedly still pressure ahead. But there is also something we did not have at the beginning of Year 12: the knowledge that we are capable of getting through it.

The end of the trials feels like more than the end of another assessment period. It feels like another milestone in our final year, another reminder that our time at Beverly Hills Girls High School is slowly coming to an end.

Soon, we will sit our final exams. Soon, the last school bell will ring for us. Soon, we will walk through these gates not as Year 12 students, but as graduates, ready to begin whatever comes next.

And perhaps that is the bittersweet part of Year 12. We spend so much of our final year wishing for the stress to end, only to realise that we are also wishing time would slow down.

So, to the Year 12 cohort: be proud of yourselves. Be proud of the late nights, the early mornings, the setbacks you overcame and the moments when you chose to keep going. Be proud of the friendships you built, the memories you created and the person you have become.

The trials may have tested us, but they also brought us one step closer to the finish line.

This is not the end just yet.

But it is the beginning of our goodbye.
