Year 10 Bstreetsmart Road Safety Excursion

On Tuesday, 11 August 2026, our Year 10 students had the opportunity to attend Bstreetsmart, a powerful road safety education program held at Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney Olympic Park. The program provided students with an engaging and realistic learning experience designed to increase awareness of road safety and encourage responsible decision-making.

Bstreetsmart is particularly valuable for young people because it connects classroom learning with real-life situations. Rather than simply discussing road rules and safe behaviour, the program demonstrates the serious consequences that can result from unsafe decisions on the road. Students were encouraged to think about the choices they make as passengers, pedestrians, cyclists and future drivers, and to understand that one moment of poor judgement can have lifelong consequences.

A key part of the excursion was a realistic crash re-enactment, which gave students a confronting insight into what can happen during a serious road accident. Students also heard real stories from people whose lives had been affected by road trauma. These experiences helped reinforce important messages about staying alert, avoiding distractions, making responsible choices and understanding the risks associated with travelling on the road.

Our students found the experience both informative and memorable.

“Going to Bstreetsmart was a really interesting experience and definitely different from our usual school excursions. We got to see a crash re-enactment, hear real stories from people who had been involved in accidents and learn more about the risks of being on the road. The crash re-enactment was probably the most memorable part because it made everything feel a lot more real. Overall, the experience gave us a better understanding of road safety and showed us how quickly things can change because of one decision.”  Rahma A

“The be street smart excursion was a good experience as it taught important information about road safety and the risks as well as consequences faced that can come with being on the road. I enjoyed the excursion, despite it being different from normal classroom lessons, it focused on situations that people may experience in real life. It helped me understand the importance of being responsible and aware when travelling on roads while teaching me about the risks of making unsafe decisions and how being conscious of unsafe actions can help prevent accidents. Overall, I appreciated this excursion because it was informative, gave me knowledge that can be used in everyday life and was beneficial as being safe on the road is something that is important for everyone to understand.”

The excursion was an excellent opportunity for our Year 10 students to learn important lessons beyond the classroom. We hope the knowledge and awareness gained from Bstreetsmart will encourage our students to make safe and responsible choices whenever they are on or near the road.

We would like to sincerely thank Ms S. White, Ms Killham, Ms Stavrou, Ms Speer, Ms Hanna and Mr Dang for organising the excursion and for their supervision, support and care throughout the day. Their commitment helped ensure that our students could participate safely and positively in this important educational experience.

Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and every safe decision matters.
