Growing Our Wellbeing & Inclusion Team

Next term, we are excited to welcome a Mental Health Practitioner to our Wellbeing and Inclusion Team.

The Mental Health Practitioner will provide additional support for students’ social and emotional development, including Social Thinking, small-group and individual support, based on student need. They will work alongside our existing staff to help us provide the right level of support for students at the right time.

We look forward to introducing our new team member and sharing more with families next term.

Strengthening Support Through MTSS

Recently, Sofia Courtney, Melanie Irons, Renee Johnson and Georgia Soans attended two days of professional learning with Think Forward Educators focused on Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).

MTSS is a whole-school approach that begins with strong teaching and support for all students, then provides additional targeted or individual support when needed. The team explored how schools can use student data to understand what is working, identify students who may need additional support and monitor their progress.

This learning will help guide our ongoing work to strengthen a consistent and connected approach to learning, wellbeing and inclusion across Wembley.

Bullying No Way Week – Small Acts, Big Impact

Last month, Wembley recognised Bullying No Way Week, with this year’s theme Small Acts, Big Impact. Students explored how small actions such as, kindness, including others, speaking up and checking in on a friend, can help create a school where everyone feels safe, included and respected.

Students also learned about what bullying is and what it isn’t. While conflict, friendship difficulties and one-off disagreements can be upsetting, bullying involves repeated behaviour that causes harm and an imbalance of power. Understanding this difference helps children recognise concerns and know when and how to seek help.

As part of the week, students participated in an age-appropriate Kids Helpline incursion focused on bullying, respectful relationships and help-seeking.
