What's Been Happening Around Wembley 

Book Week

As always, Book Week was a huge success where our community's creativity shone through! The costumes were incredible and the joy was infectious!

Throughout the week, we were so lucky to welcome Jo Dabrowski and Maxine Beneba Clarke to our school to share their tips and tricks about writing and publishing. We were extra lucky to have Maxine return the next day to watch our Year Six poetry slam.

Our second hand book sale raised just over $550 for R.O.O.P. (Reading Out of Poverty) to support indigenous communities with literacy resources. We'd like to thank our families for both their generous book donations and participation in purchasing books. All leftover books have been donated to other local primary schools and organisations in our area. Thank you to Eileen and Liz (library volunteers), Emily and Lisa (Wembley Waste Warrior Volunteers) for your assistance on the day. Not only does this benefit the charity we were raising money for, but this also contributes to our Sustainability Waste goals as a part of the Resource Smart Schools program. All leftover books have now been donated to other schools and organisations in our local area.

We'd like to thank all our teachers for their organisation and participation around creating door displays, as well as bringing fun through R.A.P. (Random Acts of Poetry) and yard read alouds. The students truly had an excellent week!

BER Library Update

Over the duration of Term 3, our BER library has undergone a significant update under the care of our Library volunteers, led by Liz and Eileen. Our collection has been digitised for borrowing, so that when students visit the library, they will be able to loan out books under their name. From Term 4, our library will return to being open to class bookings during the day and Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes, staffed by our volunteers (Liz, Eileen, Cara, Dianne, Karen & Angie). We will continue to upgrade this space for staff and students over time, and look forward to what our library can be!

Sustainability, Buildings and Grounds

We have a lot of exciting sustainability education happening in Year 4! The year 4 students wrote incredible letters to the Wembley Waste Warriors to convince us that we need to improve our bin systems at school. As a result, Christie (a WWW volunteer and parent) donated 3 recycling bins to the year 4s, and Sofia organised compost bins. We are now running a trial in this cohort, with the support of the sustainability captains, Mason and Jacob, and we will keep the school updated on the progress. This is contributing to the next Resource Smart Star for our school. We've also heard a rumour about another sustainability project in our middle school for Term 4 - can't wait to get an update!

A huge shout out to Grant's Crew who collected all the bottles from the Colour Run and kept them out of landfill and got them into co-mingled recycling. Well done, team!

Spanish Day 2026 - ¡Que dia!

Every year, our school comes together for Spanish to celebrate the Spanish Language and the many cultures of Spain and Latin America - cultures that mean so much to me and have become a special part of the school. The day began with the incredible Alejandro Flores welcoming everyone with live Spanish guitar, and it was wonderful to see students and families saying hola, stopping to listen and even dancing as they arrived. Our students looked fantastico in their colourful outfits and enthusiastically experienced cha-cha, flamenco, merengue and interactive percussion - one of my favourite moments was watching them leave the hall still practising the moves they had just learnt.

Ms Briskey and Ms Tan's choir also performed their Spanish songs beautifully after months of rehearsals , while students enjoyed tasty churros throughout the day. At lunch time, the teachers vs students soccer match once again became a huge spectacle, with the teachers taking the win after a fantastic game.

A heartfelt gracias to families, staff and students for bringing so much colour, energy and excitement to the day. Watching our students dance, sing, perform, play and connect their classroom learning with cultures is what Spanish Day is truly all about.
