Afterschool Netball

Fortnight update.

Over the past two weeks, the girls have had a bye and played against St Francis Xavier again.

St Francis Xavier came away with the victory, the end scores were 12-8. However, the girls are all rotating in new spots, which is going to factor in the end result, so we don't mind much. It is all about having fun with friends and trying something new this term. Shae and Maeve both hit the scoreboard with a couple of goals each. Chelsea, Baylee and Alana the other goal scorers.

Alana, Elsie, and Macey were all awesome in defence during the night. Anna was her usually self, running raggered in centre and trying her hand in attack.

The next two weeks, we find ourselves up against St Patricks and Siena Primary Schools.

Thanks again to B.Walsh Plumbing for our new netball dresses. We had an umpire compliment us on our new kit! "Best dressed here"

Winter Sports - Netball review

Friday 30th May, 2 teams went into Ballarat and competed against school from all across our Division at Winter Sports. We headed to Selkirk Stadium with a girls and mixed team. The girls team consisted of our afterschool netball team and our mixed had a range from the whole cohort of boys and girls, some of them playing their first game of competitive netball.

Mixed Team - Fought it out every game. They came up against some very handy teams where you could tell a lot of them have played netball before. Our first game, we had most of the ball and plenty of shots on goal, however, we couldn't convert. After that, they kept at it, rotating through all positions. Coming into our last game, it clicked, and we had our first win. So pleasing to see all students stick it out and their overall resilience was outstanding! Thank you to Lucy Hayward for helping out with that team all day!

Girls team - going into the competition was all about learning from playing against possibly older teams and how we can get better. 7 Grade 5s and 1 Grade 6 made up our team, so for almost all of them, it was their first Winter Sports. We were fixtured to play 5 games throughout the day. We kept the girls in their preferred positions. Baylee and Chelsea as our shooters, working well all day. Macey/Alana and Elsie in our key defensive positions, their defending was outstanding all day. Lastly Anna as centre, running around everywhere, Shae and Maeve mid court working well and linking everyone together. To their credit, they won every game, and easily. We averaged 10 goals a game and maybe conceded 2-3 goals all day. We ended up on top of the ladder, which meant finals.

Coming up against a very tall Wathaurung team (made up of 15 odd small schools across the district), they jumped us early, at half time we were down 5-0. Heads a bit down, we said lets go for it, leave it all here and to their credit they did, we fought back but was too late losing 5-4. Keeping them goalless and we almost pinched it. Well done girls.

Thank you to Milly, Lucy, Eliza and Thea from the secondary school for umpiring, coaching and supporting of all the teams.

Thank you to our families who travelled into Ballarat to support their children/the school and helped in what ever capacity.
