Principal News

Curriculum Day Tuesday June 10th.
Just a reminder that Tuesday June 10th (day after Kings birthday public holiday) is a curriculum day. Students are NOT required at school on this day.
Attendance
As part of our processes at BPS we continue to track student attendance. We are noticing an increasing number of students absent from school. This is in the form of late arrivals, early pick ups or unexplained absences.
Going to school is important. Student absence has a direct correlation with student achievement levels. Going to school is an essential part of your child's education. There is no good number of days for missing school. Being away from school for 1 day a fortnight adds up to missing 4 whole weeks of school a year.
If your child is unwell, then they should not come to school. Please let the school know via Compass if your child is sick.
In summary, we want our students at school for the maximum amount of time possible. Please contact us if you would like to discuss your child's attendance or if you are having difficulty getting your child to attend school.
Vision & Values
You have been invited to a parent/carer workshop!
As you are aware we are reviewing our school vision and values. You have been invited through Compass to attend a parent workshop. We encourage you to attend.
Developing a new vision and values statement is the responsibility of all stakeholders in our school. We are working with staff and students to gain their feedback within the process as well.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
On Friday May 9th Year 6 students went to Wizardry School at the at Hamer Hall. This performance was conducted by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall.
Our Year 6 students along with hundreds of other primary school students attended this unique cultural experience and we had a fabulous day. The children were led on a guided listening tour to explore the magical ingredients of the Symphony Orchestra through the iconic music of John Williams, Sanit-Saens and Stravinsky.
This event was part of a musical enrichment program sponsored by Hastings Rotary. We thank Rotary for their support to our school. What a great opportunity for our students at Bittern PS.
Peace Pole Service/Peace Day activities
Last Friday we spread the message of peace through peace day activities and a ceremony around our newly installed peace pole. Hastings/Westernport Rotary have donated a peace pole to our school. This peace pole has 4 messages:
- May Peace prevail on Earth
- Peace begins with a smile
- Be the change you wish to see in the world
- Womin Djeka - Welcome!
I was so very proud of our student leadership and Hands on Learning team as they led our peace ceremony and planted flowers that remind us of peace. Great work everyone!
