You will need a USI before you commence applying for tertiary courses through VTAC, unless you are a New Zealand citizen or temporary visa holder who has not yet arrived in Australia.

warning

A USI is mandatory for every new higher education student studying at a tertiary institution in Australia. If you do not have a USI, you will need to get one before commencing your VTAC course application*.

*If you are a New Zealand citizen, or have a temporary or student visa, and are not currently in Australia, you must obtain a USI after you arrive. If you are yet to obtain a study or student visa, you will need to get a USI after you have your visa and arrive in Australia.

How to complete your profile

1. Create an account

On the login page, click on ‘sign up now’, which will lead you to the create account page. You will need to provide your email address, create a strong password and enter your legal name, birthday and current education status.

Multi-factor authentication

You will need to have access to a mobile number, where an authentication code will be sent to the mobile in order to verify your account.

Applicant dashboard

The applicant dashboard hosts all the key links to complete and manage your account. On the dashboard you will be able to view the progress of completing your profile, apply for courses and view any outstanding documentation required.

2. Complete your personal details

You will be asked to enter your full name and date of birth when creating an account, along with being asked if you have undertaken secondary or tertiary studies under any other names.

If you are a current Year 12 student, make sure the details you use to register a VTAC account are the same details the school has recorded for you. Speak to your school if you need to make any changes.

You will be required to select which study intake you plan to begin studying at university, TAFE or college. Additionally, you will need to provide your gender, education background and confirm your contact details.

Verify your citizenship and residency status

You will be asked if you are an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen, or if you hold or will be obtaining an Australian residency or study visa. You will also be asked your country of citizenship, country of birth and which language you mostly speak at home.

If you hold a visa you will be asked to enter the date it was granted and the sub class (the number or letter printed on the visa). If you hold a specific temporary visa type which makes you eligible to apply for equity schemes and scholarships, you will be prompted to upload a copy of your visa grant notice. If your temporary visa is a bridging visa with subclass 010, 050, or 051, you must also provide evidence of your application for a substantive visa.

Add your living location

Once you've filled out all these details, hit submit at the bottom of the page. If you have successfully completed your personal details, a pop up will appear confirming your information has been saved successfully.

4. Complete education history

You can add any current or previous certificates and qualifications you have attempted or completed (including discontinued qualifications). There are two sections, one for secondary studies and another for post-secondary studies.

You will need to include which country you completed the study in, the state, the year level, year of completion and qualification. You will also be required to enter your student/candidate number and school name.

Once completed, VTAC will search for a record of your results and will inform you if we find it and require any additional evidence or information.

If you are a Year 12 student and have difficulty at this stage, check with your school to see if the details they have recorded for you are correct.

Making changes to your profile

If you need to make any changes to your profile during the application period, you can do this through your VTAC account.

If you need to make a change to your current name, date of birth or citizenship details, click ‘create request’ at the bottom of the personal details page. You will need to upload suitable evidence (eg, change of name certificate, marriage certificate, visa documentation) as proof of this change.

Once you’re in the change request section, you will need to select the type of change:

  • Name
  • DOB
  • Email Address
  • Mobile Number

Update your details accordingly in the request and then hit ‘next’. Then upload the relevant documentation and hit ‘submit’. You MUST upload a document in order to proceed. You will receive a notification confirming your information has been successfully saved.

If there have been changes to your residency status, you have moved or changed phone or email address since registering with VTAC, you should update your contact details as soon as possible in your VTAC account.

Assign an authorised nominee

If you would like someone to be able to contact VTAC on your behalf regarding your course application, you can add them as an 'authorised nominee' in your VTAC account by following these links: My profile > My nominees.

You will be asked to provide their details such as name, contact information, relationship and date of birth.
