Principal's Report

Dear parents, carers, student and staff,
As we wrap up Term 2, I want to thank our students, families, and staff for another fantastic term at our college.
Our senior students in Years 10 to 12 completed exams and the General Achievement Test (GAT) this term—well done to all involved. A special thank you to Assistant Principal Georgie Kios for her organisation and leadership throughout this important period.
We also welcomed Grade 5 students from our local primary schools for Taster Days, giving them a glimpse into secondary school life. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with primary staff praising the warm welcome from our students and staff. Thank you to Meg Beattie and Assistant Principal Brad Andrews for leading this important transition work.
Recently, our music students proudly performed at Hampton Park Primary School, delighting the audience and reconnecting with past students. Thanks to our Mr Ryan Evangelista and our music students for showcasing the talent and community spirit of HPSC.
Several weeks ago, many students enjoyed their excursion to the Women in Trades Expo at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.
Careers Week- Congratulations to the careers team for our biggest week of the year, last week! Starting last Wednesday with the Year 10 immersion program they had a guest speaker during Period 1, career action planning in Period 2 and the career expo during Period 3 and onwards, it was a big day for our students. Our Year 11 VM/VPC students had the benefit of a great presentation by JD Roadshow and have been informed that there will be approximately 50 Christmas casual jobs at Fountain Gate being advertised soon.
All students that were onsite at HP last Wednesday were given the opportunity to go through our ‘road to success’ career expo, together with some interested parents/carers, which was our biggest yet! The careers team did a fabulous job, well supported by the wellbeing team, Ms. Sally Carruthers, Ms. Doris McDonald, members of the learning support, maintenance teams and some members of the leadership team.
Year 10 students had a very successful day last Friday with their mock interviews. Special thanks to Ms. Carly Pearson for her leadership of this program.
The Change Makers Program has run very successfully during this term, and we thank Mr. Chris Haddad for his leadership of this program.
We’ve also started early planning for 2026 timetable—thank you to Assistant Principal Ms. Andrea Bellgrove for her leadership. Following significant consultation with students, staff and parent/carers from 2026 we will move to a 5 period day, with the school day commencing at 9.00am and concluding at 3.10pm. Each subject will have 4 lesson each week, this providing an additional connection to reinforce learning. The timetable changes will provide more structure, while still retaining student choice. More information will be communicated later in this edition and also again, prior to Course Counselling next term.
Preliminary results from the 2024/25 Student Attitudes to School Survey show that students are feeling more connected and engaged. We’ll use this feedback to keep improving what we do. The preliminary results show that improvement has occurred in 25 of the 27 categories, acknowledging that we have been previous achieved results that matched or exceeded, Like schools, Network and State. With the largest improvement in the categories of Effective Teaching time and Year 7-9 transitions. I wish to acknowledge the dedicated work of our staff. Later this week, our student leaders will consider the data from the survey, and we will invite greater insights to inform our work for continuous improvement.
Bring it on! Rehearsals are on again during the first few days of the school holiday. I wish to acknowledge the dedication from our staff and students with this exciting event.
4C’s - Students have been busy rehearsing for this years’ 4C’s event. Cultivating, Creative Cultures with Communities takes place each year at Bunjil Place. With students showcasing the traditional cultures of their schools. I look forward to seeing our cultural pride on display in September.
Thank you once again for your support. Wishing you and your family a safe and restful holiday break—we look forward to welcoming students back for Term 3 on Monday 21st July.
Kind regards
Wayne Haworth
Principal
