Deputy Principal's Update

This week is National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to reflect on the relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider community. At King’s College, we approach this week through a Christian lens, remembering that every person is made in the image of God and deeply loved by Him. As we seek truth, healing, and unity, we are reminded of Christ’s call to love our neighbour, pursue justice with compassion, and walk humbly with our God (Micah 6:8). Reconciliation reflects God’s heart for restoration, and we are grateful for opportunities to grow in understanding, respect, and peace.

Last week, we celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime, a special event where schools and libraries across Australia read the same book at the same time to promote the joy of reading. This year’s story was The Truck Cat, and it was wonderful to see everyone from our 3-year-old kinder students right through to our Year 6s come together to enjoy the book. It was a fun and heartwarming way to share a love of stories across all ages. Thanks to our amazing Librarian, Mrs Nield, for organising this!

Parents and students are invited to attend a VCE Information Session on Wednesday June 5th from 7:00 to 7:30 PM, held online here via Google Meet. The session will provide an overview of VCE requirements and procedures, study scores and the ATAR, the subject selection process, and available pathways including the VCE Vocational Major and TAFE options. We look forward to seeing you there.

Gideon Kabenge Live in Concert

Last Friday night, the King's College auditorium was filled with incredible music and energy as we hosted Gideon Kabenge Live in Concert.

Gideon brought the audience to their feet with his original songs and impressive dance moves. The night also featured fantastic performances from the King's Choir, Senior Chapel Band, and local musician Demby McKenzie.

This concert was a wonderful success as it raised over $3,000 for Ararat Christian School Uganda! Thank you to everyone who supported this unforgettable event.

The Hello Girls - Tickets Now on Sale

Rehearsals for The Hello Girls are well underway, and our students have been working to learn lines, master choreography, and grow in confidence on stage. For many, this is their first time performing in a major production, and it has been inspiring to see them embrace the challenge with such enthusiasm.

We are proud to have a talented cast of 72 students bringing this powerful story to life.

A special thank you goes to Mrs Jellie and her woodwork students for their incredible work this week painting and preparing our sets. We also thank Wayne McNaughton for building us a custom switchboard to use in the show. We are looking forward to our dress rehearsal with the band on Saturday 14th June.

Tickets are now on sale here and we can’t wait to share this production with our school community!

Canadian Student Teachers at King's College

Once again, King’s College, in partnership with Deakin University, had the privilege of hosting two Canadian student teachers for the past three school weeks.

Shannon and Rachel, who both live and study in Vancouver, have been an absolute pleasure to work with, quickly putting their teaching skills into practice. Their visit to King’s formed part of their final observational placement as they prepare to complete their teaching qualifications.

Shannon spent much of her time with the cast of The Hello Girls, bringing her theatre studies background and love of Drama and English to life in a bright, bubbly manner. Rachel enjoyed exploring more of Warrnambool and the South West through various Outdoor Education and Geography excursions.

Although both are studying Secondary Teaching, they embraced the opportunity to engage with all areas of the College, even spending time at our Bush Kinder!

We thank Shannon and Rachel for bringing a small taste of Canada to King’s and wish them every blessing as they embark on their teaching careers.

A Message from Rachel

Spending the past three weeks at Kings College has been such a rewarding experience. From the very first day, I felt so welcome and quickly realised what a special school community this is. The students have been so warm, open, and engaged. It’s the kind of energy that makes me excited to teach - and along the way, they’ve made sure I leave knowing my Footy teams and Aussie slang too.

A real highlight has been seeing the Outdoor Education program in action and getting to join in on a mountain biking excursion! Getting to see students outside the classroom always brings out a different (often hilarious) side of them.

I’m currently completing my Bachelors of Education with a specialization in Geography and History at the University of British Columbia. In September, I’ll be working as a casual relief teacher so that I can get a feel for the year levels and subjects I enjoy teaching most. But who knows - maybe I’ll find my way back to Australia to teach one day!

A Message from Shannon

Thank you so much for welcoming Rachel and I! When I think of King's College, the first thing that comes to mind is the incredible kindness I received from everyone. From students to teachers to staff, King's always made me feel truly appreciated and cared for.

I’m heading back to UBC for the next two months, and I’m thrilled to share that I’ve already secured a job with the Vancouver School Board - exactly where I had hoped to work! I’ll be starting my teaching career in September, and I couldn’t be more excited.

Thank you again for making me feel so included. I will always cherish the time I spent with all of you!
