Curriculum Matters

Foundation

Our Foundation students had a wonderful time celebrating their very first Education Week!

They joined their buddies for National Simultaneous Storytime, showed impressive determination and resilience during their first cross country and shared a lovely Biggest Morning Tea with their grandparents and special friends.

Enjoy some of our photos from across the week!

Level 1

In class, we've been busy painting backgrounds to showcase our “Dark Dark” poems and participating in Maths Improvement Groups with a focus on building our addition skills.

A special highlight was a visit from Bailey the lizard, kindly brought in by Mrs Hague.

1M was so lucky to meet him, and everyone showed great resilience and courage by giving him a gentle hold or pat.

Education Week reminded us of how lucky we are to learn and grow together in such a caring, curious, and creative school community!

Level 2

As part of our exciting Inquiry unit on Materials, our Level 2 students will be diving into the world of woodwork!

This hands-on project gives students the opportunity to explore and work with a variety of materials as they design and create their very own woodwork piece.

Through this creative process, students will learn about the properties of different materials, how they can be used in construction, and develop important skills such as planning, measuring, and using tools safely.

We can't wait to see the incredible creations our students will produce!

Level 3

The Level 3’s enjoyed every minute of Education week last week.

To start the week off, we competed in teacher vs student games and we loved winning against our teachers and even Mr Oakey and Mr Zach!

On Wednesday, we celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime along with millions of other students across Australia. After reading the book of the year “Truck Cat”, we made origami and wrote our own picture story books.

We enjoyed eating so much food with our Special Person/Grandparent on Thursday for the Biggest Morning Tea.

We ended a jam packed week with a fun morning celebrating the different cultures in our school.

Level 4

Last week, our Level 4 students went to Scienceworks for an exciting excursion packed with science, discovery and hands-on fun.

Our first stop was the Energy Lab, where students deepened their understanding of the Sun, Moon and Earth. Through interactive displays and experiments, we explored how these three bodies interact, learning about day and night, the seasons and how energy from the Sun powers life on Earth.

The highlight of the day for many was watching Tilt in the planetarium. This engaging animation took us on a journey through space to explore how the Earth's tilt and orbit create the seasons. Students were captivated by the experience and came away with a stronger grasp of some tricky science concepts.

But the fun didn’t stop there! In the Sports World exhibit, students tested their speed, strength, flexibility and coordination. It was a great opportunity to burn off some energy and discover how our bodies move and perform during sport.

We also explored the Think Ahead exhibit, where students stepped into the future to imagine life in years to come. From futuristic transport to innovative technology, there was plenty to spark curiosity and imagination.

It was a fantastic day of learning and discovery. A huge thank you to our parent helpers and teachers who made this excursion possible.

We can’t wait for our next adventure!

Level 5

The Level 5 students have been very busy learning about Space in our Inquiry topic “Gateway to the Universe”.

They have worked collaboratively in small groups to create a detailed model of the planets in our Solar System in order from the Sun. Each group then presented their project to the class focusing on the way they delivered their information and answering questions about their work.

The students have also researched the difference between comets, meteors and asteroids and wrote an Information Report about their findings.

Level 6

Our Level 6 students have had a fantastic two weeks full of rich learning experiences across Mathematics, Writing and Inquiry

In mathematics, they've been sharpening their skills with fractions—learning to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with confidence. They have also worked on converting between improper, proper and mixed numbers. They've also been exploring the concepts of area and perimeter, applying their knowledge to solve real-world problems and designing a Melbourne Map with some of Melbourne’s fantastic landmarks. Students have also started writing their own narratives using a range of language features that they have discovered over the past weeks.

Meanwhile, in Inquiry, students delved into an important part of Australia's history: Federation. They have explored both the positive and negatives of Federation and its impact on our country.

It’s been a busy few weeks full of growth and achievement.
