Child Safe Standards

Every year we are required to review some of our practices against the Child Safe Standards, to ensure that we are providing an environments where our students are safe and feel safe, where their participation is valued, their views respected and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives.

We are also required to inform our school community about the Child Safe Standards - so I would like to point out that they are detailed on our school website. I would encourage everyone to read these and be aware of their expectations.

Wonderful Education Week

We had a wonderful week last week, participating in activities that promoted a Celebration of Cultures. The main feature was Open Night last Thursday where we showcased our school and had a sample of the things we do on display. Once again this event was well supported by the community that came out in huge numbers to have dinner from the food trucks and visit the school.

Additionally, from this night, we picked up a number of new enrolments for 2026 - families very impressed with what they saw, who are now very keen to be part of Jells Park PS.

Thanks to everyone that came along, to the teachers for opening their classrooms and to the School Choir & Mrs Pratt for the presentation in the gym.

Important Reminders / notes:

Footy / Pokemon / Other Cards: Can I remind all parents that we do not permit students to trade cards of any type. Card trading is fraught with issues and problems, mainly complaints of older children taking advantage of younger children. Cards can be brought to school but please remind your child not to participate in trading.

Bringing Toys to School: Is at'your own risk' - please understand that teachers cannot manage or monitor care of your children's tyoys while at school. Please discourage your child from bringing expensive or valuable items to school.

Celebrating your Child's Birthday at School: Can I encourage parents to keep this occasion as simple as possible - a small bag of chocolates, a box of cup cakes, etc. Please keep the hot food, big birthday cakes and gift bags for the home birthday party. Additionally a couple of other points on birthdays:

      * please ensure there is enough items for all students in the class

      * understand that distribution of these items is at the end of the day

      * it is not the teacher's responsibility to hand out birthday invitations

Sibling Enrolment for 2026: Please contact the office for the information flyer on how to register on the Enrolment Platform (Insight) and apply for your child to attend Jells Park PS. This can be done now. It really helps us to know the number of sibling enrolments really early.

Reconciliation Week: A Time for Reflection and Action

Reconciliation Week, held annually from May 27 to June 3, is an important time for all Australians to deepen their understanding of Indigenous history, culture, and the ongoing journey toward justice and equality. This year's theme, Now More Than Ever, reminds us that reconciliation is the connection between past, present and future.

Throughout the week, communities across the country come together for events, discussions, and celebrations that acknowledge the resilience, contributions, and rights of First Nations peoples. This week at JPPS, the teachers and students are engaging in activities to understand the uniqueness of indigenous culture and the wisdom and knowledge embedded within. Developing skills and understanding about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders histories and cultures is an important part of the Victorian Curriculum.

Attending local gatherings, engaging in meaningful conversations, or supporting Indigenous businesses and initiatives are some of the ways we can support reconciliation.

Reconciliation is a shared responsibility that benefits all Australians.

Have a wonderful weekend!
