Learning Power Award Recipients

Congratulations to students who have been recognised by staff for their demonstration of one or many of the 6 Learning Powers celebrated at SMDP.

On Monday during our whole school assembly, the following students were acknowledged and their learning described so we all know why they are worthy recipients of our awards and applause.

Week 4

Liyana

Well done Liyana for being a resilient learner! You have shown incredible bravery by coming to school and settling in more each day. Even though it can be challenging, you are pushing yourself to share your wonderful ideas and have a go at new things. We are so proud of your courage and how you are stepping outside your comfort zone. Keep being brave – you're doing amazing!

For being a collaborative learner, who enthusiastically shares ideas and shows  wonderful interest in exploring new concepts, especially during our exciting Animal Land Excursion. Laaksh is always the first to offer care and friendship to his peers with his cheerful attitude and big smile – you're a fantastic role model, Laaksh!

Yashraj

For showing exceptional teamwork during our inquiry project. Yashraj collaborated thoughtfully with a student from Year 10 to create a detailed and creative diorama on floods, demonstrating both care and consideration throughout the process. His positive attitude and willingness to help others were also evident in the way he cleaned and organised the classroom at the end of the session. Yashraj has been working hard to stay on task and give his best efforts all week. We are all so proud of you! Well done.

This week, you have been a reflective learner during our Initial Lit lessons. You've worked hard to remain focused on the carpet, listened carefully to feedback, and bravely shared your ideas with the class.  I'm so proud of your dedication this week, Anahita. Keep up the fantastic effort!

For showing incredible resilience and patience when faced with technology challenges. Instead of getting frustrated, you stayed calm, positive, and kept trying — a true example of a strong learner! You are also a kind and courteous friend who always makes great choices and does the right thing, even when no one is watching. You’re a wonderful role model to others, and we’re so proud of you!

In year 2 we have been creating information books on natural disasters. You have been motivated from the planning through to publishing. Your book not only looks great but includes all the features of a nonfiction text. Well done Saachi, you should be so proud of all your hard work and effort.

For being a resilient learner with the biggest smile ever! Aarna has made a fantastic transition into 3/4 LM and to life as a new student at SMDP!   Even though Aarna has experienced many changes, adapting to school routines and expectations,  she has displayed a positive energy, a friendly manner and a respectful attitude. It’s so impressive the way Aarna has settled into her new community. Well done!  We are happy you are here!

For being a creative and motivated writer! Your story plan about Panda and Possum followed the text pattern, whilst making it your own with additional descriptive details. You demonstrated fantastic focus in our writing brainstorm and provided thoughtful suggestions about what to look for when editing. Keep up the attentive attitude, Evelyn!

For being a collaborative learner. You actively showed your ideas, listen attentively to others, and demonstrate an interest in exploring new concepts, especially during the Science Observation Lesson. Your positive attitude and active participation make you a role model for your classmates. Keep up the good work, Darren.

You took part eagerly in every lesson, confidently shared your thoughts and answers, and stayed focused on improving your understanding. This person gets the award  for demonstrating curiosity as a learner. During our Maths lesson on 3D cross sections, Percy asked thoughtful, focused questions that showed a strong engagement with the topic. He also made a meaningful connection between the lesson and a text he had read, showing deeper thinking and understanding. Well done, Percy — keep wondering, questioning, and making those brilliant connections!

Well done Aveer for being a creative storyteller! You've shown incredible imagination by writing a fantastic narrative with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Your detailed drawings brought your story to life, making it even more exciting for us to read. You're a true writing star, and we can't wait to see what amazing stories you'll create next!

For being a resilient learner who has bounced back from mistakes and kept on trying. She has listened to feedback, tried again and again, and never gave up. She has displayed a positive energy, a friendly manner, and a wonderful attitude to learning each day.

For demonstrating exceptional collaboration skills by working thoughtfully and creatively with a student from another class to create an engaging diorama on bushfires. Bianca showed deep understanding by clearly explaining the causes and effects of bushfires to older students and adults during our Inquiry Exhibition.

Despite just joining SMDP, Bianca has confidently stepped into our learning community and shown that she truly belongs. Your teamwork, curiosity, and courage to connect with others are inspiring.

For being a motivated learner who brings joy to our classroom every day.  You are always the first to respond to our classroom attention signal, showing how eager you are to listen and learn. Your cheerful smile brightens our day, and your kindness to friends makes everyone feel happy. Thank you for being a positive role model in our class, Felicia.  You are a shining star!

Your respectful manners and kindness towards classmates and your teacher make our class a happy place to be. For being a reflective learner. You have created a fabulous book on bushfires, you took on teacher feedback and remained motivated. You improved your work as the days went on and the end result was a massive success! Well done Elyana!

For being a curious and inquisitive learner. Rhea was eager to explore how chemical science works during our Incursion. She had many questions, made new observations and was eager to learn more. It is refreshing to see the excitement and enthusiasm that Rhea exhibits during this unit. Keep up the wondering and exploring Rhea!

You then demonstrated these skills during our Science incursion by connecting to prior learning, asking thoughtful questions, and patiently supporting your peers. This student has demonstrated thoughtful reflection on her learning this week, making connections to  Bible scripture and her own faith during the religion task. This student also carefully reviewed her Pobble writing piece allowing her to select a clear and focused writing goal to improve her next narrative piece.
