Hospitality

Mrs Jacinta Kruger

It’s been a fantastic and productive Term in the Hospitality and Home Economics space, with students actively involved in a variety of hands-on learning experiences that connect them with both School and community events.

The Toogoolawah SHS coffee cart has been running hot this Term - literally! Our Hospitality students have gained valuable experience preparing and serving a range of hot and cold beverages, while learning the importance of customer service, time management and food safety. It’s been great to see their confidence grow as they interact with staff and students during morning tea breaks. We're excited to announce that the coffee cart will be rolling out again at the upcoming Athletics Carnival, so don’t forget to stop by for a delicious brew and support our budding baristas.

Our Hospitality students have also been volunteering their time outside the classroom to gain real-world experience and complete valuable service periods. Their willingness to step up and help at key events such as the ANZAC Day service, the Toogoolawah SHS Open Night and the Esk Show has been outstanding. Whether they were serving refreshments, assisting with food preparation or ensuring smooth event operations, these students demonstrated professionalism, teamwork and a strong sense of community spirit. These experiences not only contribute to their course requirements but also build confidence and prepare them for future careers in the hospitality industry.

In Home Economics, students have been engaging with a unit focused on “Catering for the Community”, exploring how food can bring people together and support local events. Last weekend, several students put their skills and creativity to the test by entering decorated party cakes into the Esk Show. Their colourful and imaginative designs were a wonderful showcase of their talent and a great way to support one of our key local events.

Below are photos of some of the amazing cakes, you’ll be blown away by the detail and creativity on display!

Looking ahead, our Toogoolawah based students will also be preparing cakes for the Toogoolawah Show, where they will have their chance to shine and celebrate the connection between school, creativity and community.

Well done to all of our students who have represented Toogoolawah SHS so well this Term through hospitality and community engagement.
