Year 10 Science
Ms Shanks, Ms Cerchi & Ms Sanderson
Students in Year 10 Science have been learning about chemical reactions this week and were excited to put theory into practice during a series of hands-on experiments. Investigating the reactivity of a range of metals, they developed their practical skills, including careful measurement, observation and safe handling of materials.
As they tested how different metals reacted with acid, students compared their results, made predictions and discussed what their findings revealed about the reactivity series. It was a valuable opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world chemistry, and was enjoyed by all. Thanks to Mrs Dargusch for preparing the experiments and taking the photos.
Lesson 4 on a Friday can often be a bit weary. With so many out this week at the Rewards Trip & Esk Show, the three Year 10 Science classes combined to do some integrated activities. The students worked brilliantly through a few different activities, including building molecular models which increased in difficulty as they worked down the page. Only a few students made it to determining the final two compounds, including Kane Brown (pictured). Emerald & Savana also had a laugh, making a number of water (H2O) models and announcing “Miss! There’s WATER all over the table!” Enjoyable and hands on learning.
