Year Level Captain's Report

Hi everyone,

It is hard to believe we are already halfway through Term 2! This semester has flown by, and as Year 7s, we have come such a long way since our first day at Beaumaris Secondary College. I believe we have all built confidence and independence by getting used to different teachers, classrooms, and routines. It has been great to see everyone finding their rhythm.

In class, it has been busy yet fulfilling as we have learned a wide range of topics across all our subjects. Let us reflect on what we have explored so far:

  • BEST:

We have been experimenting and asking big questions about the different types of forces we experience in everyday life. One of the highlights was designing and constructing our own toys out of cardboard. It was a fun and hands-on way to explore how simple machines can be used with purpose and creativity!

  • Communicate and Relate:

Through studying the novel and film Blueback, we have been inspired to explore the powerful themes of family, community, and nature. These themes have encouraged us to reflect on what they mean in our own lives.

  • Create Visual:

Building on the six art elements we learned in Term 1, we have continued exploring new techniques and proudly transforming our creative ideas from 2D into stunning 3D artworks!

  • GOAL:

We have been exploring strategies to care for our wellbeing—physically, mentally, and emotionally—using the SEARCH framework, helping us become stronger, healthier, and more balanced every day.

  • Healthy Lifestyles:

We have been growing our knowledge and confidence in managing our health and wellbeing. A big thank you to Ms Leith and our dance instructors for bringing so much energy and fun to our dance lessons!

  • Innovate:

This term, we have dived into the exciting world of coding and creative technology, learning how to design and build digital solutions.

  • Japanese:

We had a fantastic time exploring Japanese culture through the animated movie My Neighbour Totoro. To bring the language to life in a fun way, we worked in pairs to create our own dialogues in Japanese, using our favourite characters. It was such an amazing experience!

  • Mathematics:

We have been challenged to apply various index laws to simplify algebraic expressions, and along the way, working with our classmates, we have built confidence and deepened our understanding of algebra.

  • Our World:

We have deepened our knowledge of the rich cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, while also gaining a greater appreciation for their deep connection to Country and Place.

Outside the classroom, there has been so much happening! We have been involved in sports and clubs, and there is still more to come. Don’t forget Arts Week and Battle of the Bands are coming up! These events are an awesome chance to share your creativity, passion, and talent with our school community. Most importantly, they bring us together with joy and in meaningful ways.

We are incredibly proud of how far we have all come. Let us finish Term 2 strong, confident and united!

Stay warm!
