Principal Message

Dear Families,
Term 2: As we are now over halfway of Term 2 and the weather gets colder, please have a quick look at the school uniform worn by your children. Students often ‘warm up’ during the day and shed their warmer layers. Lost property can get overrun with jumpers and jackets that are not clearly named. A quick check to ensure names are on clothing will assist your child to find their jumper or jacket much easier.
School Concert: Once again, Dallas has nailed the school concert! What a wonderful afternoon we had on Monday for the concert. Performing (dancing, singing or playing an instrument) in front of others can be a daunting experience for many students. Dallas always does an amazing job inspiring our students and encouraging them to actively participate in the school concert item for their year level. The skills on display were a remarkable sight. Well done to all involved.
If you are keen to have a copy of the concert that is yours forever, please buy from this link! It’s $33 - You can download it 5 times (on different devices), so make sure you save it or it will be gone!

Athletics Carnival: Last Friday our Year 3-6 students attended our Athletics Carnival at Landy Field. As always, it was masterfully organised by our PE teacher, Mr Horbury. A huge thank you to the teachers, learning mentors and parents who supported Mr Horbury run a highly successful day. The Athletics Day is about participation and improvement of skills for our students. Congratulations to all the students for participating throughout the day and encouraging their peers.
Year 4 Camp: Today our Year 4 students headed off to Cave Hill Creek near Beaufort for their two-night school camp. Each year, the Year 4 students come back with amazing stories about their adventures at the beautiful Cave Hill Creek Camp. With the temperature forecast to dip down around zero tonight, I hope parents have helped their children pack warm clothes, beanies and quality sleeping bags! Thanks to the Year 4 teachers for organising school camp. It is a massive undertaking organising a school camp; buses, meals, medications, risk assessments, dietary requirements, liaising with our fantastic parent helpers, cabin and duty groups … this list goes on!
National Reconciliation Week: Last week we celebrated National Reconciliation Week as a school. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Curriculum Day reminder: Tuesday 10th June (adjacent to the Monarch’s birthday) is a pupil free day where staff will be finalising assessments for reporting mid-year achievement. Camp Australia is available should your child need care that day.
Grove-Chella: A big Saturday afternoon of dancing, dress ups and socialising was enjoyed by many members of our school community. Grove-Chella was held at One Day Estate and by all reports it was a wonderful day with new friendships and connections created for our parent community. Thanks to the P&F team for your work organising Grove-Chella.
2026 Prep enrolments: If you have a younger child that will start Prep at OGPS in 2026, please make sure you have completed your enrolment forms and handed them into the office. The earlier we can begin to lock in numbers for 2026, the earlier the school leadership team can begin planning and preparing. If your child has a diagnosis or will be needing additional adjustments, please make sure that is included in your communication with school so we can assist with the smoothest transition possible.
Donut Day: A reminder that this Friday is one of my favourite days of the year … ‘Donut Day.’ Money raised through the sale of donuts will go The Smith Family. If your child is in Year 4, they will receive their donuts when they return from school camp. Good things come to those who wait!
Thanks to the P&F team for your work - again!
2025 Principal Conference: The 2025 Government Schools Principals Conference is currently on in Melbourne. The conference will provide evidence-informed professional learning, inspiring presentations, workshops and networking opportunities for Principals. We look forward to hearing what Scott and Kristy have learned when they return to school tomorrow.
Year 6 Camp: Camp charges have now been put onto Sentral for the Year 6 Camp. SSB can be used towards this. Camp can also be pay in instalments by part paying through Sentral. If you need any financial assistance with camp please contact Lara in the office.
Be kind, include others and stay warm.
