Italian

Grade 3 & 4 Students

Throughout this semester, both Grades 3 and 4 students have continued to work well in Italian exercising prior knowledge.  Each week, students have continued to revise short and simple conversational language either by asking and answering general questions about how they feel, what their name is and how old they are, numbers, colours, body parts through games.  Children continue to sing Tanti Auguri to a student when it is their birthday and as a special treat sit on the vespa or in the gondola.

Students have presented their work by making their own booklet based on revision topics and writing simple sentences using topic information,  i.e. describing their hair and eye colour, age, type of hair, tall or short, family members, likes and dislikes and foods they eat for breakfast - colazione, lunch - pranzo and dinner cena. This also includes a self portrait of themselves.  This booklet is called  Mio Libretto Descrittivo which means My Descriptive Booklet. Other elements included in their libretto are short sentences that include their favourite sports and their birthdate.

Other topics revised in class are the names of classroom items, telling the time in a simple way and revising the names of the days and months.  Students tell time by responding to Che ore sono? Or Che ora e`? Sone le due e trenta    or   Le due e mezza…….  One is a digital response and the other is an analogue response.  It is 2:30 or  half past 2.

Students consistently revise the 5 vowel sounds in English and Italian when recollecting the sounds of each letter in the Italian alphabet as it supports their ability to articulate the correct pronunciation of words and when reading short sentences.

It is great to see how much progress students achieve with such a positive attitude towards their learning. Very proud of these students!   Great work kids!!

Bravi bambini.
