Halfway Through Term 2: A Mid-Term Reboot for Our Students

As we reach the midpoint of Term 2, it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect, and reignite our focus for the remainder of the term. This week, I took the opportunity to meet with all students via Microsoft Teams—a tool that has become invaluable in allowing us to connect efficiently without disrupting class time. Two short but meaningful virtual sessions were held: one for Years 7–9 and another for Years 10–12.

The aim of these meetings was simple—a mid-term “reboot.” As the weather cools and the term begins to feel long, it’s natural for energy levels to dip. But it’s now, more than ever, that we must stay focused and remember why we’re here: to learn, grow, and support one another.

Years 7–9: Building Strong Learning Habits

In our session with the junior students, the focus was on maintaining supportive learning behaviours and following our school-wide expectations—ROCKS (Respect, Organisation, Collaboration, Kindness, and Safety). We reminded students of the importance of being on time and prepared for class, as this sets the tone for productive learning.

As assessment periods approach, we encouraged students to seek help early and often. Their classroom teachers are there to guide them, and no question is too small. Ensuring students stay on track now will help reduce stress later in the term. A key message was this: being proactive today makes all the difference tomorrow.

Years 10–12: Learning Beyond the Classroom

For our senior students, the discussion centred around the idea that learning doesn’t end when the bell rings. Being physically present in class is essential, but so too are strong homework and study habits. Year 12 students are stepping into the final stages of their school journey, and with that comes both responsibility and opportunity.

To support them, we’ve designated two special spaces during lunchtime. One is a shared common area where Year 12s can relax, eat together, and build connections as a graduating cohort. The other is a quiet study zone—no food allowed—designed to help students stay on top of SAC preparation and other assessments for both VCE and VM pathways. It's all about making the most of school time and creating an environment where purposeful learning can flourish.

That said, we know how important balance is. Alongside focused learning time, students are encouraged to get involved in a wide variety of activities. Whether it’s participating in House events, SIS sport, casual games at the new table tennis tables, or joining music concerts and SRC initiatives, there’s something for everyone. These experiences build friendships, resilience, and a strong sense of community.

We are proud to offer an education that supports the holistic development of every child—socially, emotionally, spiritually, personally, and academically.

Dreamtime Footy: A Celebration of Culture and Connection

This week also saw one of the most anticipated events on our sporting calendar—the annual Dreamtime Football matches. Under beautiful sunshine, both our boys' and girls' teams took to the field in a celebration that combines the thrill of sport with a deep respect for Indigenous culture.

The girls' team travelled to our Cranbourne Campus, where they faced a determined and athletic opponent. While they fought hard, the Cranbourne team proved too strong on the day. Meanwhile, the boys' match was hosted at our Clyde North Campus and had everyone on the edge of their seats. In a nail-biting finish, Cranbourne held on for a one-point victory in the final minutes.

More than just a game, Dreamtime Footy is a celebration of culture, teamwork, and reconciliation. The specially designed Indigenous jerseys worn by our players once again highlighted our school’s commitment to acknowledging and honouring Indigenous heritage.

We extend a big thank you to all the students who played with heart and spirit, to the dedicated coaches, referees, and goal umpires who made the day possible, and to our Social Justice Club for cooking up a storm at the BBQ for players and spectators alike. It was a truly memorable day and a fitting reminder of the power of community.

As we look ahead to the rest of Term 2, let’s keep our energy high, our goals in focus, and continue supporting each other—on and off the field.
