1/2 Class news
Students in 1/2 have been busy learning how to partition two digit numbers in Mathematics, and improve their persuasive writing skills using the OREO framework. One day we entered our classrooms and our chairs had quit! No chairs to sit on meant learning had to be on the floor. Students wrote fantastic persuasive letters to convince their chairs to return. Thankfully we can report that the chairs are now back in our classrooms. Please have a look at our persausive writing pieces on the 1/2 noticeboard next week.
Literacy classes have seen students pounding and sounding explicit sounds such as short vowels 'i' as in pit, in and itch, short 'o' ox, on and octopus, 'l' as in leaf, lap and let.
In Inquiry we are creating diorama's of our ideal park design. Student groups were established by random selection using papdle pop sticks. These small groups then had to think about the features of 'their' park, including natural, man made and managed features as well as accessability for all. A hoard of recycling has been sent in by families (thank you) and students have now moved from the design process to creating their parks using all our wonderful donated bits and pieces. These should be ready for display next week.

Year 5/6 prepared their spinach, ricotta and feta pies last week. A delicious and nutritious lunchbox option students can easily prepare at home. Crispy, crunchy filo pastry was rolled around a spinach and cheese mixture. Students enjoyed trying different cheeses - ricotta and feta, and rolling up their pastry.
This week we prepared a pasta called Capunti - little pea pods. This type of pasta is easy to make, needs only 15 minutes resting time and had all hands on deck to roll, cut and shape the littel pea pods before slipping them into salted boiling water. Our sauce was inspired by a TicTok pasta dish - creamy pasta. Truly delicious, a sauce prepared by baking a whole piece of fets with tiny tomatoes, oilive oil, chilli and fresh herbs. Once out of the oven, students topped their freshly cooked pasta with the creamy sauce, a grating of parmessan cheese and some basil and oregano fresh from our garden. Please encourage your child to make this at home for you, they were so proud of their achivement.
We have had a very generous donation of some brand new kitchen utensils from one of our 1/2 mums - thank you Antonina. We utilised some of these donated knives and a lemon zester today. We so appreciate your kindness and support of the kitchen garden program.
In the garden we were so grateful for the lovely winter sunshine last week and focussed on cleaning our school cow. She has a lovely layer of dust and dirt on her and we felt a good clean may lead to her receiving a new coat of paint - hint hint!! We have also moved our gardening resources and utensils into our shed, so that we can establish what we have and what we need, to start planting our winter garden. Donations of any winter plants such as rhubard, spinach, bareroot fruit trees - lemon, lime, apple, salt bush or lemon myrtle, would be greatly appreciated. In addtion we are going to be creating our school scarecrow next week, we would absolutely love a donation of pea straw or sugar cane mulch and some coffee sacks to create the body. The scarecrows name will be voted by students in coming weeks.
FInally some exciting news for the kitchen garden - we have won mushroom kits for next terms kitchen garden classes from the Australian Mushrooms Growers Association. One of our 1/2 mums, Amber, alerted me to the competition and I jumped on board straight away. More news coming next term as the kits arrive and we begin growing our own St Augustine's mushrooms.
