PATHWAYS & CAREERS

MS SALLY LOONEY & MS ANNA STEICKE - PATHWAYS TEAM

Welcome Anna Steicke to Pathways

This term we welcomed Anna Steicke to the Pathways Team. Anna is replacing Brenda Brady in the role of Pathways Administration Support while Brenda enjoys some well-deserved long service leave until the end of 2023. Anna has a wealth of experience in supporting students in their work placements and coaching young people for success in their career pathways. Anna is in the Pathways Office and works Monday to Thursday. I would encourage any parents, guardians or students who need Pathways administration support to contact Anna for assistance.

Year 12 Support

All Year 12 students have had the opportunity to attend presentations and access individual assistance with their university applications( VTAC and SEAS), scholarships, how to access to VCE results as well as career pathway planning and job applications. We wish all Year 12 students the very best as they begin their journey into life beyond secondary schooling and remind them that our support continues well beyond their final class.

Year 11 and 12 2024 Blocking Sheet

This week all current Year  10 and 11 classes have been provided with the first draft of the 2024 blocking sheet which indicates the senior subjects on offer in 2024 and the alignment of classes. Students were asked to indicate their preferences based on this blocking sheet and discuss this with parents/guardians. Students are encouraged to email Mrs Looney or call into the Pathways Office and arrange a meeting if they require further assistance or were absent during this lesson.

All 2024 Year 11 and 12 students and their parents/guardians will have a Senior School Transition Interview in late November to discuss options, confirm their subject selections and have important information explained as students begin or continue their senior school studies.

10C Work Experience;   23rd October – 27th October 2023

Anna Steicke and Jennifer Salvo (10C Pathways teacher) have worked extensively with students to obtain placements and prepare them for work experience this term. We wish our students well and look forward to hearing about their learning in a workplace environment when they return.

Richmond Institute Presentation on Tuesday 10th October – Careers in sports

Steven Terzakis from the Richmond Institute provided a very informative session to interested Year 11 and 12 students on the available tertiary courses. Students must satisfactorily complete Year 12 and admission is based on an interview and a demonstrated passion for a career in sport rather than an ATAR score.  Please see the attached flyer for more information.

Scholarships

The Regional/Rural Education Scholarship specifically aims to provide financial support to students residing in regional or rural areas who wish to pursue an API-accredited degree, specialising in the property valuation field. This scholarship is an excellent opportunity for students to not only enter a thriving profession but also benefit from the guidance and mentorship of an experienced professional. To learn more about this scholarship opportunity, please visit the official webpage: Educational Scholarship - Regional/Rural - Australian Property Institute

The Francis Gregory Foundation was established in 2012 to provide financial support to children of primary producers, to assist them in undertaking University undergraduate education, by reducing financial barriers.

The Foundation will provide two scholarships of $6000 per annum (for the duration of the

undergraduate degree), to students whose main family income is derived from primary production. This amount will be paid, to the student, in two sums. The amount of $3000 will be paid after confirmation of enrolment is received (and after the census date) and the balance will be paid on commencement of Semester 2 (and after the census date).
