MENTAL HEALTH WEEK

MS MANDY MCCALLUM - DIRECTOR OF WELLBEING

This week we have celebrated Mental Health Week. Mental Health Week provides a prime opportunity to address and highlight the importance of positive mental health and promote effective prevention strategies to keep people mentally healthy. Throughout the week we have run a yoga class, and several of our art students decorated the brick wall in the Red Court area,  we have also held different activities at lunchtimes for students to participate in such as stress ball making and calico bag decorating, Tyson Hartshorn organised a Push Up challenge to highlight the importance of exercise in our lives which was also very popular with the students. Headspace Swan Hill staff were here at lunchtime on Wednesday to mingle with the students and make them aware that Headspace is available to them if they need mental health support.

The week concluded with us hosting The Big Blue Table which is an initiative from Beyond Blue to help kickstart conversations about mental health and raise money for their vital support service. The whole school came together on Friday to share lunch, have a conversation and create a sense of community. I would like to thank Jorgie and Gemma, our school counsellors, and Lauren and Sofie, the Wellbeing student leaders, for all the work they put in behind the scenes to make this week such a  great success.
