It's been a bustling term in Chinese! Our students have had an absolutely fantastic time immersing themselves in a wide array of engaging activities aimed at not only enhancing their Chinese language proficiency but also making learning an enjoyable experience. Here's a glimpse of what each year level has been up to:
R-2 Students: Our youngest learners have been exploring the fascinating theme of "family." They've been busy acquiring the skills to describe family members in Chinese, and they can now eloquently express relationships. Additionally, they've delved into the world of colors and learned the names of various body parts in Chinese.
Year 3-4 Students: This group has been focusing their attention on stationery items and gaining insights into the education system in China. It's been an exciting journey for them as they've put their Chinese vocabulary to practical use by designing their very own backpacks.
Year 5-6 Students: These students have taken a deep dive into the topic of "rooms in the house." They've been mastering the art of naming different rooms and describing their positions in Chinese.
And the excitement doesn't stop there! Week 8 is Language Week, during which we have an array of captivating activities planned at school that promise to be both educational and entertaining.

Year 3 students have been investigating matter. Solids, liquids and gases are the three main states of matter. However, some materials are hard to classify as a solid, liquid or gas. The girls investigated why custard powder is hard to classify. Custard powder is a solid. Water is a liquid. They had to predict what would happen when they were mixed together.
The material they made is commonly called Ooblek. You might like to make it with your daughter:
Tip half a cup of water into a bowl
Gradually add one cup of custard powder to the water, stirring the mixture with a spoon until the water and powder are fully combined.
Add as little food colouring if you like.
Use your hands to explore the custard.
What do you think will happen when you poke it softly? Punch it? Squeeze it? Hold it?
Each time the custard will behave differently. Have fun!
