What's happening in our classrooms?

Literacy:

During Week 1, students completed a “Book Tasting” to pick their Term 4 Book Club book. We began reading our class novel “The Breadwinner” by Deborah Ellis and students began learning about how people lived in Afghanistan before and after the Taliban arrived. While Reading our book club books we focused on summarising what we have read and ensuring we are comprehending the text while reading. In Writing sessions, students enjoyed writing a procedural text on how to Make Fairy Bread. They had to follow the steps and instructions that a peers wrote and learnt the importance of being specific and giving clear and precise instructions. Students have continued learning about Procedural Texts including the structure, how to write them and using specific procedural language.

Numeracy:

We began learning about Fractions, in particular converting mixed fractions to improper fractions and vise versa. Students also began learning how to simply fractions using common factors, adding and subtracting fractions together and equivalent fractions. In Non-Number Maths we began learning about time and converting between 12 and 24 hour time.

Inquiry:

Our Term 4 Inquiry Unit is called Solids Liquids and Gases. Students began learning about the 3 states of matter (solids, liquids and gases) and conducted science experiments to further their understanding of these states. We look forward to continuing to conduct many fun science experiments this term!

Wellbeing:

In Wellbeing we discussed how to problem solve, in particular when we are faced with difficult situations or problems. We continued to discuss the Zones of Regulation and identifying triggers that may effect our ability to enter and stay in the green zone.
