Literacy:

We have a very exciting term of Literacy ahead...we are exploring persuasive letter writing through the mentor text Can I Be Your Dog? By Troy Cummings (feel free to watch the read aloud below to have discussions with your children about the text). In the upcoming weeks we will be exploring how the author establishes tone and conveys a message to the reader. We will be learning to identify emotive language, rhetorical questions and exaggeration. Students will then be exploring how to write from the authors perspective and take on their voice in their writing.

Numeracy:

This term in Numeracy we will be working on developing our multiplicative thinking skills, measurement and fractions. In the upcoming weeks we will be exploring arrays and how these are used to represent multiplication and links to division.  We will be introducing this idea through the mentor text One Hundred Hungry Ants. Students will be learning how to articulate their thinking and making estimations based on facts they identify (a great resource to explore with your children is estimation 180).

Wellbeing:

Throughout this term we will be continuing our work with the Zones of Regulation to support students with building strategies to help them recognise and cope with their emotions. Through our Respectful Relationships sessions we will be continuing our work around positive gender relations with a focus on understanding fair and unfair behaviours, cause and effect of verbal actions and identifying respectful and friendly behaviours.
