The Next Fortnight of Learning
Literacy
We will be using a mentor text to make inferences about characters feeling and motives. Students will be writing character descriptions based on illustrations. The students will be comparing and discussing texts to identify features that are similar and different. Throughout the term we will be also exploring different types of poetry.
Students have been applying phonics knowledge they have been gaining through the year while reading decodable texts. While referring back to the text, students answer a range of questions related to sounds, comprehension and predictions.
Our current phonics focus is 'a' as in grass and 'al' as in half. Phonics review is using 'ing' as a suffex. During the next few weeks students will review the phonemes that have been taught throughout the Term. This review will help to solidify their grapheme knowledge.
Maths
This fortnight our math focus is learning how to play simple games to consolidate our understanding of number and algebra concepts. Students will also explore the connection between addition and subtraction and practice counting forwards and backwards by ones from any given number to 120. Students will continue to be involved in problem solving tasks to consolidate their ability to reason and justify their responses.
Inquiry
The focus for our inquiry unit this term is Light and sounds. Students will explore sources of light and sound. They will make connections between sound and vibration, as well as light sources and shadows.
Wellbeing
Our Term 4 topic for Resilience Rights and Respectful Relationships is Problem solving. Throughout the term students will practice conflict resolution strategies. They will identify cooperative behaviour in a range of group activities. Practice individual and group decision making and solve simple interpersonal problems. These skills are beneficial for developing and maintaining friendships.
