This term we have learnt  the diagraphs ph and  wh and  we will be learning ai/ay. Students will be reading and writing words such as phonics, phone, alphabet, whizz, whiff, when, pain, main, wait, May, say and pray. Students will be reading and writing sentences such as, Dolphins have shrimp and squid for lunch. We whisk a lot of eggs in the pan. The train set off along the railway track. We will be making connections to the texts that we read and recording sentences about our connections. So far this term, we have learnt the Heart words ‘who’ and ‘what’ and we will be learning the word ‘when’.

Maths

This term we introduced the concept of ‘half’ and discussed the importance of a shape being the same on each side. Students used playdough to make shapes and used a tool to half them symmetrically. We will be learning about the concept of ‘part part whole’ and exploring how a whole number can be partitioned into 2 or more components. Children learn important maths concepts through play. Here is a link to a Maths game you could play at home:

Wellbeing

During Wellbeing we will be discussing what makes a good friend and identifying friendly and unfriendly behaviours. We will be exploring variety of activities that involve our senses and assist with calming ourselves when we feel anxious or upset.

 Reminders

Students can log into Reading Eggs and Mathletics at home. Login details are pasted at the back of the Boomerang book. These are great resource for children to practice phonics and explore maths.

We have noticed there are many children who come to school with laces. If they can't tie their laces, it is recommended they have velcro shoes. Here is a video to assist with learning to tie laces.
