Boxer Luke Macklan Wins His First Fight in Melbourne
The school community congratulates Year 9 boy Luke Macklan, who last weekend had his first ever Amateur Boxing fight and won.
After a previous fight had to be rescheduled due to not being able to find suitable opponents, Luke kept training and finally got his chance, fighting at the famous Melbourne Pavilion in Kensington on Sunday night, October 8th.
Luke was pitted against an opponent of a similar age and weight, however it was revealed his opponent had already had 5 previous fights, and had been a Victorian State Champion, making it a mismatch in terms of experience.
However according to Luke’s trainer, Greg Foster from the Ultimate Fighting Academy where Luke has been learning boxing since he was 10 years old, Luke “dominated” the fight in a brilliant display.
He was so close to knocking his opponent out that the referee almost stopped the fight on a couple of occasions. One of those was after a body shot that drew an 8-second count, before a series of Straight Rights to the face got his opponent leaking, with the ref lifting Luke’s arm as the winner after two 90 second rounds.
We applaud Luke’s outstanding achievement and the courage and skill he displayed in doing so.
Furthermore, Luke’s commitment to training in a Sport he has found a passion for, and his overall focus on fitness and health, are things all of your young boys, and girls as well, should be inspired by.
Well done Champ.
