Engagement and Wellbeing

Year 4 and 5 - ‘Cool Guys’ and ‘Girlosophy’

We are pleased to inform you that in Term 4 our Year 4 and 5 students have been taking part in gender group workshops facilitated Kate Wilde and Jane Shannon. ‘Cool Guys’ and Girlosophy' runs every Tuesday.

The ‘Cool Guys’ and ‘Girlosophy’ Programs work with single gender groups to deliver activities, group discussions, team games and group/individual challenges. Activities centre around mental health and wellbeing, resilience, communication, problem solving, help seeking behaviour and friendships.  As part of these programs, students often undertake peer activities.

The approach of the programs is for students to work towards ‘being the best me possible’.  Students are encouraged to be their true selves, rather than adopt or disregard a behaviour based on the opinions of others and/or the media.  Content uses a variety of tools for engagement and may include:

  • Assertive Communication & Conflict Resolution
  • Role Models
  • Positive Self-Talk, Self Esteem
  • Cooperation and teamwork
  • Social media, stereotypes and being an individual
  • Resilience and ‘Helpful people’

Thank you to the School Focused Youth Service from Maroondah City Council for partially funding this wonderful opportunity. We hope the students find it beneficial and we look forward to sharing their experience with you
