Kayaking at Sandringham

In August 9F Outdoor Education class completed their Kayaking excursion at Sandringham Beach. Students learnt about tides, wave classifications and how wind can affect Kayaking. Students also learnt how to read a map as well as understand knots vs km when referring to wind speed. It was a fantastic sunny day for the excursion, and the students had an amazing time. Well done to all student who attended and paddle their way around the bay.

Sandringham Beach Visit

Students studying Year 9 Outdoor Education visited Sandringham Beach where they learnt about the impacts of pollution on the coastal environment of Port Phillip Bay. Students collected beach glass, which consists of physically and chemically weathered glass found on beaches along bodies of salt water. These weathering processes produce natural frosted glass and will be used for a project later in the year. Students also created Sandcastles that replicated a compass based on the student’s location.

Mountain Biking

Two out of the three Year 9 Outdoor Education classes have completed their Mountain Biking excursion at Lysterfield Lake this week. Students completed many different trails around the Lake, whilst learning new skills. Over the next few lessons, students will complete their Journal entry where they will reflect on local flora and fauna that the saw in the area, along with risk assessment, Indigenous history, and weather forecasts. Well done to all students who attended.
