Wellbeing and Inclusion
at Willy
Dear families,
As our students settle back into the routines and busyness of term two, our teaching teams are planning units of work and lessons that focus on child safety and respectful relationships. The focus for many teams is Help Seeking and Feeling Safe, as detailed below. These topics are explored through a range of learning experiences including explicit teaching, shared readings, individual and small group work, and role play.
Help Seeking
Students:
- identify situations when they may and may not need help
- investigate trust and courage in seeking help
- identify who to turn to, who to trust, who to thank
- rehearse help seeking conversations
Safety
Students:
- explore their reactions and responses to safe and unsafe situations
- explore how to keep themselves and each other safe
- investigate and explore children’s rights with reference to the Australian Human Rights Commission and the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child https://www.humanrights.gov.au/sites/default/files/document/publication/Child_Friendly_Childrens_Rights_Report_2014.pdf
- develop a safety network of trusted adults that will listen, believe, and help them if they are ever feeling worried or unsafe.
- identify what makes them happy and what makes them nervous/scared.
Kind regards,
Lisa Leydin
