Year 5/6 Team News
with Laura, Christina, Bianca R, Molly, Bianca I, Steven & Will
Hello Year 5/6 families,
Literacy
In our latest academic adventure, students have embarked on an exciting journey into the realm of poetry. Through exploration and creativity, we're delving into the beauty of words, rhythms, and emotions that poetry offers. During our reading time, we're diving into the rich tapestry of history. As part of our unit of inquiry, students are unravelling key historical events, gaining a deeper understanding of the past's impact on the present.
Maths
In the classroom, we're expanding our mathematical horizons! Students are actively engaging with concepts like perimeter, area, volume, and capacity. These fundamental skills are not only being honed but are also applied to real-world problem-solving scenarios. It's all about empowering our young minds with practical maths skills and creative thinking!
Inquiry
Our newest unit of inquiry sets sail on a fascinating journey through Australia's history. We'll delve into the when and why of people's arrival Down Under. From ancient Indigenous cultures to modern-day migrations, we'll explore the diverse stories that have shaped this land. Our upcoming visit to the Immigration Museum will provide greater context for this learning.

A sample of our work in poetry…
Unity
Friends and foes stand hand in hand
Grouped together to make a stand
Many people never cease
To keep trying to find world peace
If everyone is united
World leaders would be excited
Citizens would be delighted
The whole world is invited
I smile at the person next to me
And think, perhaps unity is the key
Everyone all around is free
There is not one thing they cannot see
About the key to unity
All of us are a community
There is equal opportunity
To display our humanity
