Captains & Vice-Captains for 2024

The Great S'more Adventure

The year 5 students learnt about procedural text writing by creating an experiment to make a solar oven to cook some s’mores in (S’mores are an American campfire treat with a biscuit, marshmallow and melted chocolate). 

Before the experiment could be conducted the students wrote an aim, hypothesis, material list and instructions. The ovens were then made and the experiment was ready to go! 

On a cloudy, yet hot day the students observed their ovens in all their glory and the experiments were a great success. Everyone enjoyed their s’mores at the end of it all!

 

 

Afterwards the students reflected on their results and wrote some concluding statements. 

 

The students loved this hands on learning experience that integrated the curriculum topics of science and writing.
