NEW - Just Leadership Day

On Tuesday November 21 the following children attended the Caritas Just Leadership Day at St Mary's Mooroopna: Nathan Aitken, Hailey Munari, Elisa Nigro, Alana Reid, Max Reid, Isabelle Sinclair, Ingrid Spedding and Scarlet Snelling. Led by Kerry Stone from Caritas Australia, the children were exposed to the work of Caritas and in particular Catholic Social Justice Teachings.  As we explored the injustices about the world, we were encouraged to ‘help people help themselves out of poverty’.

Caritas are the Catholic Church's international aid and development agency in Australia. They are committed to working alongside the most vulnerable and addressing the imbalance of power by including the people affected in the decisions impacting their lives.

As future leaders our children were empowered to act as social justice advocates and help create a world where all people can live with the freedom, peace and equality that we are all accustomed to. Some social justice issues that need addressing include: income inequality, climate change, food insecurity and poverty.  Did you know that Youare richer than 80% of the people in the world?  We look forward to what 2024 will bring.

NEW - Best Start Story Writing Competition

Congratulations to Elisa Nigro, Ingrid Spedding and Lani Reid for being selected as finalists in the Greater Shepparton Best Start Story Writing Competition! The picture books 'White Chook' by Lani and 'Bob's New School' by Elisa and Ingrid will be in our school library for all students to read. They are also currently on display at the Shepparton Library. We also congratulate past student Anabelle Ford whose book 'My Main Street' was selected as the winner and will be handed out to around 1000 preschoolers across the GV.

NEW - Yr. 5 Fishing Initiative

Our Year 5's were happy to receive Little Angler Kits, as part of a program for Year 5 students provided by the  Victorian Fisheries Authority and Victorian Government. We hope our Year 5 students enjoy trying them out.

NEW - 1/2 KO

After weeks of 1/2 KO trying to solve the Turtle puzzle, Mason Jecs was the first person to do it.  Well done, Mason!

NEW - Christmas Appeal

This term the Grade 6 Social Justice Team are holding a Christmas Appeal and we would like each grade to bring in their designated item for their basket to give to the appeal.

We would like the Foundation classes to bring breakfast foods, tinned fruit and/or tinned ham.

We would like the 1/2s to bring Christmas biscuits, crackers, chocolate and lollies.

We would like the 3/4s to bring toiletries and other sanitation products.

Finally we would like the 5/6s to bring Christmas decorations such as wrapping paper, cards, pens or bonbons.

We hope all the grades help us give Mini Vinnies the items they need so we can support the less fortunate this Christmas.

By Nate and Michael (and the Social Justice Team)
