Head of Secondary Update
Finishing Well
As the end of year tiredness starts to creep in for all of us, the recent mid-term break was a welcomed addition outside of normal routine. For some it was a chance to get away for a few days whilst for others an opportunity to garden or just relax and enjoy a sleep in. Regardless, I hope that students are now feeling a little more recharged and re-energised as we approach important assessment periods such as this week’s end of year exams for Years 9-11 students or making sure that all tasks are submitted prior to reports.
Over the next few weeks there are some important events for students at both ends of Secondary school. On Wednesday 15 November our Year 12 students come together with their families and teachers to celebrate their Bayside journey at the Valedictory Dinner. We then look forward to seeing this cohort one last time to farewell them as the graduating class of 2023 at the Secondary Presentation night on Tuesday 5 December, commencing at 7:00pm in the K Block Gymnasium.
Finally, after a two-week intensive VCE or VM Head Start program in readiness for 2024, our Year 10 and 11 students' last day is on Monday 4 December with the time being spent together on an excursion to the Melbourne Cable Park. For our Year 7-9 students, they will need to wait a little longer. Their year concludes on Wednesday 13 December but not before enjoying a three-day activity week, from Monday 11 December, which includes an excursion to Gumbuya World. More details about all of these arrangements will be communicated to students and families shortly. But until then, there is still much more learning to gain and accomplishments to achieve.
May God continue to bless all students' efforts as they strive for the 2023 finish line at Bayside.
God Bless,
Mr James Kumnick

SIS Golf Tournament
Bayside sent its inaugural team to compete at the SIS Golf Tournament on Friday the 3rd of November at the Mount Martha Golf Course. This was the first time the competition has run since Bayside joined SIS in 2019.
The “Competitive Team” consisted of Ryan Pearce (Year 11), Luke Dawson (Year 11), Sam McDonald (Year 10), Zach Anderson (Year 8) and aspiring amateur caddy Joey Gaskell (Year 9). They came back after a tough start to the day on the first hole, shooting a respectable 1 over par playing ambrose style, to finish 7th overall.
The “Recreational Team” with Ollie Hallam (Year 9), Oliver van der Zwaard (Year 9), Elise Hallam (Year 7) and Emily Buchanan (Year 7) also played well, improving with each hole shooting 8 over par also playing ambrose style.
After getting back to school the students finished the day with some up stairs mini-putt based games up stairs in K block, in some fiercely competitive competition. It was a great day out and a learning experience. The whole team, coach included, are looking forward to next year's competition, as we make it a recurring part of the school fixture. A special thank you to Clint and Marie Anderson from Uchoose Golf for donating Bayside embroidered polos shirts to the team to compete in. - Mr J Goschnick
2023 VM Christmas Hamper Drive for Pantry Plus
The 2022 Christmas Hamper Drive was so successful with almost 30 hampers that we are running it again this year. These hampers will be sent to Peninsula City Church and they will distribute them through their Pantry Plus program and Somerville Primary for people in desperate need of practical support and compassion this Christmas.
It would be sensational if students could provide the following non-perishable goods for these hampers by Tuesday 28 November.
There will be drop-off boxes located around the College including the ELC and Reception. For Secodnary students, homegroup teachers will collect these goods before the VM students pack them into Christmas boxes. Our VM students will also be making Christmas Cards with messages of hope and celebration for the families, who receive them. Thank you for your contribution, it is greatly appreciated.
