How this term is flying!
Bike Education for the Year 5/6 students continues as part of their PE program. The Year 6 students are enthusiastically practicing the dances for their Graduation on Monday 11 December. The 2024 Prep Transition sessions are occurring with the next one scheduled for Tuesday 21 November from 9:30 to 11:00 am. The Student Leader interviews for 2024 have been held.
On Monday 30 October, the Year 1/2 students participated in an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo. The benefit of this excursion could definitely be seen by the positive reports the students told on their return, and their inspirational writing efforts.
Last Friday 10 November, our Student Leader for ‘The Arts’, Summer Black, very capably led our primary assembly. Summer had planned the runsheet with Mr Dave Mallen and it ran very smoothly. Performances of poetry recitation, piano, recorder, voice and dance were enjoyed by the Primary students. Congratulations to all of the Primary students who were prepared to perform on the stage at such an assembly. Well done!
The Preps are attending an excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary today and we pray that it is a wonderful time of learning for them.
Icypoles
The student leaders continue to sell icypoles for $1 on a Wednesday to Friday at lunchtimes, outside the LOTE room. Correct change is appreciated.
Australian Academic Services
Academic Testing for Year 2, 4 and 6 students will be held on Monday 20th November.
Ashton Scholastic Bookclub
The final issue closes on Friday 24th November. (Issue 8) Online orders only.
Last Day of School
On Wednesday 13 December, the Primary School will hold a final Celebration Assembly at 9am. Parents are warmly invited to attend. There will be certificates presented to students, the announcement of the 2024 Primary Student Leaders, farewell of the Year 6 students from the primary school and of staff who will not be in Primary next year.
After recess, the students will continue the celebrations with less formality when the Primary Dance will be held. It should be a very enjoyable time.
God Bless,
Mrs Glenys Bailey

Prep Digital Technology
In Prep Digital Technology, we are learning how to create a sequence of steps to solve a problem or reach a goal. For our first lesson, the students paired up to program directions into the bee-bots. They took turns to direct the bee-bot to move to a desired place on the mat. They used commands like forward, left, right and backwards, then pressed GO to make their bee-bot move.
1/2 Go to the Zoo
Buddies
Our Year 6 Buddies came for a visit on Friday afternoon and we had to choose what we would like to make with pipe cleaners and other craft materials. I made a game of naughts and crosses and my buddies, Lewis and Patrick, made a lolly pops. - Thot, 3/4T
My buddy, Goch, and I made a halo, game of tic-tac-toe, a monkey and an octopus. - Jett, 3/4T
I tried making a monkey but it was really tricky. My buddy made a monkey and a crocodile. - Michael, 3/4T
I made a large, green cactus and some bracelets and my buddies, Mikayla and Brielle, made a headband. - Ava, 3/4T

Money, Money, Money
3/4T were delighted and excited when Mrs Chester said they would have the opportunity to make their own wallets and set up their own shops to help them learn about money and giving and receiving correct change. Everything was for sale, even the stick insects! There was lots of wheeling and dealing and some entrepreneurial students managed to buy from another stall and sell at their own shop, making some remarkable profits!
Indonesian Lessons
Prep - Year 2
Our young learners dove into the world of folktales with an engaging story featuring a cheeky mouse deer and a crocodile. Bringing the tale to life, students applied Indonesian vocabulary and phrases in a performance. Prep students reinforced their language skills through various games, such as: cross the river, buzz and Simon says.
Year 3-4
Our industrious students in Years 3-4 transformed into entrepreneurs as they embarked on an exciting venture—setting up their very own clothing stores! With creativity at the forefront, they meticulously designed, labelled, priced, and presented their unique pieces of clothing.
Year 5-6
In the upper grades, our students took on the role of weather reporters for a day. Embracing the challenge, they created captivating videos announcing the weather, complete with details on the minimum and maximum temperatures in two different towns or countries.
Art Seeking Pine Cones
Primary Art is collecting pine cones. Any contributions will be much appreciated. Please hand in to class teacher to pass on to the Art department. Thank you!
2023 VM Christmas Hamper Drive for Pantry Plus
The 2022 Christmas Hamper Drive was so successful with almost 30 hampers that we are running it again this year. These hampers will be sent to Peninsula City Church and they will distribute them through their Pantry Plus program and Somerville Primary for people in desperate need of practical support and compassion this Christmas.
It would be sensational if students could provide the following non-perishable goods for these hampers by Tuesday 28 November.
There will be drop-off boxes located around the College including the ELC and Reception. For Secondary students, homegroup teachers will collect these goods before the VM students pack them into Christmas boxes. Our VM students will also be making Christmas Cards with messages of hope and celebration for the families, who receive them. Thank you for your contribution, it is greatly appreciated.
