Swimming Carnival
Wednesday the 7th February we held our annual Swimming Carnival. Once again, we had a fantastic day and witnessed some exceptional swimming, loud and enthusiastic cheering and many smiling faces. These events require a team and along with all of our amazing volunteers, our St Joseph’s staff were busy in the lead up and during the carnival to ensure our students had a great day as well as to support me and help reduce my anxiety levels. It was wonderful to see all our students who were at the carnival in either the Lap Pool or the Learn to Swim Pool with Bec Willis, Karen Fletcher and Laura Townsend. Thank you!
For a number of years, Troy Arandale has donated his time to help run the carnival and enter all the swimmers in their races using the program Meet Manager which is used by the Redfins Swimming Club. I cannot thank Troy enough for doing this for our school. It makes the day run smoothly in so many ways. Thank you Troy! Keith Watts also deserves a special mention. He willingly came to be our Official Judge on the day and gave the students some tips on the day. Steven McAllister and the Glen Innes Pool staff also contributed significantly in making the carnival happen. We really value your assistance.
Thank you to the following volunteers who helped us at the carnival: Sue-Ellen Cooper, Shanelle Gunther, Joanne Wright, Nicole Watson, Steven McAllister, Kylie Neville, Julie Watson, Donna McAllister, Krystle Nugent, Tess Lonergan, Narelle Pietsch, Brigitte Brummell, Alise McBain, Belinda Stanton, Jasmine Shields, Jennie Dodds, Carly Doust and Laura Townsend. The day could not have run without you!
The Parent/Teacher/Student Relay was great fun! This ended up being a Parent/Student relay as our usual swimming staff were busy running novelty races or were out injured. We begged and pleaded and were able to make a parent team consisting of Sam Correy, Belinda Stanton, Carly Doust and student Ryder Swift. You were too good for everyone! Well done! Penola won both Junior and Senior Relays. Go Penola!
We were well fed and watered thanks to the Lions Van organised by the P&F, caffeinated by Mel from Floatin’ Around Coffee Van and sweetened up thanks to Mrs Lyn Cregan. The look of satisfaction on Troy, Steven and Geoff McManus’ faces after they had their piece of slice at morning tea was priceless. Thanks again Mrs Cregan! I think it is a major drawcard in getting more volunteers at our carnivals.
Primary students who qualify for the Dio Carnival will be notified either Friday or early next week. This will be held in Gunnedah on Friday the 1st March.
Kindergarten - We will hold a modified ‘Tadpoles Carnival’ at school run by the teachers and House Captains. We will add their points to the overall House points from the carnival. Details will be communicated to our Kindergarten parents.
