From the Classroom - M1

We continue to be busy bees in M1!

In Reading, we have been developing our ability to summarise fiction texts, focusing on identifying key words in the books we are reading. Students are doing a wonderful job at this, recording key words on their mini whiteboards, using the 'Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then' strategy to help record our ideas, and practising writing short summaries. This is an important skill for the students to continue to develop, including retelling stories they are reading each night.

In Writing, we are working on persuasive writing. Each day, the students are forming their opinion on different topics, identifying whether they agree or disagree and giving reasons for this. To make our writing more convincing, we are also learning about different persuasive techniques, including using emotive and high modal language, as well as including statistics and rhetorical questions.

In Maths this week, it has all been about chance! We have discussed the language of chance, describing whether events will happen, won't happen and might happen. We also introduced the game, 'Greedy Pig' to support our thinking. This was a great way for us to understand chance as well as think strategically. Can you use the language of chance below to describe:

  • The chance of it raining tomorrow
  • The chance of driving a flying car to school
  • The chance of you brushing your teeth tonight
