Adolescent Health Nurse

Health Corner with Rosemary Bunge Adolescent Health Nurse

Well term 4 is flying by, so I thought it might be a good idea to update you about some work I have been doing about the College.

Year 10 and 11- I had two other school nurses join me on Tuesday 28th of November to present some self-care and wellbeing information to students who will be doing year 11 and 12 next year. Shannon delivered a session on Partying Safely, Leah worked with students on understanding themselves and others, including good communication skills, while I explored the concept of stress and stress relievers and caring for your mental wellbeing, ending the session with a deep muscle relaxation and a mindful eating of chocolate experience. Hopefully the students will reflect on these topics an put them to good use moving forward.

Year 9- have been engaged in an interactive program called Love Bites.

Love Bites is a Respectful Relationships Education Program for young people produced by NAPCAN. It consists of two interactive workshops: one on Relationship Violence, and one on Sex and Relationships.

Love Bites aims to provide young people with a safe environment to examine, discuss and explore respectful relationships. It takes a strength-based approach and views young people as active participants who are able to make choices for themselves and their relationships when supported with information and opportunity for skill development.

The overall aim is to equip young people with the knowledge needed to have respectful relationships, encourage and develop their skills in critical thinking and assist them in being able to problem solve and communicate effectively. When equipped in these areas, the hope is young people can make the right choices for themselves and their relationships that are free from violence and abuse.

Ask your student what they learnt today, this month, this term?

Thought for the week: “Look after yourself, there is only one of you.”
