In Our Classrooms:

Reporting on Student Learning

Our teachers have now completed drafting our End of Semester Reports, which are currently under review by our leadership team. This review process fosters conversations about student learning and growth. We understand your eagerness to see your child's progress, and we look forward to sharing them with you.

I’d like to acknowledge the significant time and effort that teachers invest in this process. The final reports you receive provide a set of comments and data that show your child’s learning and growth over the past six months. For teachers to create these reports, they first need to engage in comprehensive data analysis, moderation and triangulation to ensure they are reflective of what your child is able to do independently. Thank you to all of our teachers for their work on this semester’s reports, and well done to all students for what you have achieved in your classrooms this year.

2024 Classroom Allocations and Transition Day

We are in the final stages of planning classes for the upcoming year. The process of matching students to classes and teachers is intricate, and we strive for the optimal outcome for each student. Your patience and understanding of this complexity are greatly appreciated.

Students will have the opportunity to meet their 2024 classroom teachers on our Transition Day next Tuesday Dec 5th.

School Captain Appointments

It was wonderful to see the appointment of our 2024 School Captains shared with the community last week. Congratulations to Sophie and Austin, our new School Captains, and Anaya and Caiden, our new School Vice Captains. I’ve enjoyed briefly getting to know you over the last week and look forward to working closely together next year.

I also want to extend heartfelt thanks to our 2023 captains - Eden, Hanon, Lola and Oscar - for their exceptional leadership and the warm welcome they extended to me upon my arrival in May.

In Our Community

Acknowledging Our Volunteers

Many of the fantastic events and initiatives that make Port Melbourne Primary great are made possible because of the dedication of our parent and community volunteers. While we will celebrate these incredible volunteers in a couple of ways in the coming weeks, I wanted to express my sincere gratitude to all those who have lent us their time and effort this year.

Annual Implementation Plan Review and Planning

The leadership team is actively reviewing our 2023 Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) and developing the 2024 AIP. This process is crucial for operationalising our long-term strategic goals. The 2024 AIP, once finalised and shared with the school council, will be shared with our community. I am excited about implementing several significant improvement initiatives next year, which will further enhance our school's educational environment.

As December begins, I find myself feeling two things: excited about the approaching summer break, and slightly daunted by a lengthy to-do list, and crowded schedule before the term concludes. I know many families feel similarly at this time of year as you juggle work and family deadlines along with excited (and exhausted) little people. I wish you each all the best as you navigate your version of this busy, “silly season.”
