Eastern Regional Softball Champions!

CONGRATULATIONS to our Fully Loaded Softball Boys teams who were PREMIERS at the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Softball Championships! It was a close competition on the day with many of their matches winning by only a few runs. However, this was enough to secure the number 1 spot through their pool games and finals win.

This is a tremendous achievement for our school! Out of over 400 schools across the eastern metropolitan of Melbourne, our St Simon teams is the best and will advance through to compete against the best teams at the STATE Softball Championships.

To my knowledge, it has been 7 years since our school has made it to a State Championship and only twice in the history of our school. We hope there is great success again on Monday 27th November at the State Softball Championships!

SSV Interschool Sport Change of District for 2024- Wantirna District

As of next year and beyond, our school will be moving out from the Rowville District for Interschool Sports and joining the Wantirna District.

The decision was proposed by the Knox Division SSV Committee based on data trends within schools to maximise participation opportunities for all schools in the Knox area. Our school has accepted the proposal to allow our students to have the best opportunities to succeed at the Interschool Sport District level of competition.

We appreciate all the other schools, students and staff for their camaraderie and sportsmanship throughout many years within the Rowville District. I am looking forward towards much success next year on the back of our wonderful sporting achievements and performance of the student’s this year

St Simon the Apostle Swimming Team Trials for 2024

We are already looking into next year with formulating our St Simon Swimming squad for 2024 and conducting swimming trials to select our team. These trials will decide on the composition of our St Simon the Apostle Swimming Squad and students in our squad will compete at the Rowville District Swimming Carnival early next year and possibly beyond this level of competition. These trials are open to students who are interested from Year 3 to Year 5 with some provisions made to extremely capable students in Year 2.

As this is a competitive event, children who participate need to be able to swim a competitive 50m distance with the correct stroke. The strokes students will be trying out for will be backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle.

The swimming trials will be conducted in a 50m pool at Dandenong Oasis on Friday 1st December and Wednesday 6th December. The trials will be in the morning from 7:15am to 8:30am. Further details regarding the swimming trials will be sent through an Operoo form. Operoo forms will be sent to parents of children who have expressed interest in competing for our school.

Eastern Regional Metropolitan Hot Shots Tennis

Congratulations to our Hot Shots Girls team who came 5th overall at the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Hot Shot Tennis Championships.

The girls started strong with a convincing victory in their first round, winning 9 sets to 3. The next round was a tough challenge for them, particularly their single matches. Their committed effort to win every point was to be commended but in the end they lost this round 8 sets to 4. The final round robin games were a “nail biter” with our St Simon girls pushing to win every point. There were strong singles performances from Aarya Shundravel, Abbey Norman, Neisha Beatty and Sienna Grasso, all playing calculated shots to force errors from their opponents. In the end, it was a tie between St Simon and their opponent after their singles and doubles match up.

This led them to be third on the ladder of their pool and they played a finals game in the sunshine for 5th place. In this minor final, they ended up winning convincingly in their singles games and doubles.

Overall this is a tremendous effort coming 5th overall out of all the schools across the eastern side of Melbourne. We are all very proud of their achievement at such a high level of competition and the great sportsmanship they showed throughout the day.

Eastern Metropolitan Regional Cricket

There was a fine batting, fielding and bowling performance on display by our boys cricket team at the Eastern Metropolitan Cricket Championships on Friday 11th November. Large hits from Rory Stone and Noah Kavanagh during the batting put the team in good stead for the first pool game. It was a comfortable win of over 200 runs courtesy of the wonderful bowling effort.

In the second pool game, potential hat-trick wickets from Rory Stone and Smith Whitty and excellent over from Luke Spierings continued the momentum and effort of the boys team. Sixes by the final pair, Rory Stone and Olly Oldfield gave the boys a strong win, 228 to 98 runs.

In their final pool game, the bowling and fielding of the boys help with securing a win. This led the team to a major semi final.

In their major semi final, the game was intense with our boys putting in the effort to hit into gaps and over the boundary off some very fast deliveries. With a decent score, they had to defend with their fielding and bowling. It all came down to the last over of Leo Bucci to keep the runs to a minimum and collect 2 wickets. However, the boys were unlucky and just lost by 10 runs.

The next game was their 3rd place playoff which the boys won off some strong bowling and catches in the outfield. There was a bit of fun experienced by the boys playing some unconventional shots played while batting.

Overall it was great to see such a strong effort from our boys coming 3rd place out of hundreds of schools in the east of Melbourne. Well done and congratulations to each of them on their achievement!!
