Author's Corner

Where the magic of words and the boundless imagination of our young authors take centre stage.

Today we are featuring information texts from Estelle, Austin, Chelsey, Gabriella, Abi, Ethan, Bailey, Rose and Axl in Year 5.

Throughout the term, our Year 5 and 6 children have been immersed in Geography and Science studies. To demonstrate their understanding of the key Geography concepts explored during their Inquiry unit, the children created informative brochures and websites, highlighting various global destinations. Shown below are some of the brochures developed by the children in recent weeks. The children have also generated QR codes to invite you to explore their websites and expand your knowledge about our world.

Prior Knowledge in Mathematics

When children encounter something new, such as a problem or a new topic, they build on what they already know to generate problem-solving strategies and expand their thinking.

When teachers connect what they're teaching to what children already know, it assists children in understanding more complicated/new things. This also helps build effective learning habits for lifelong success.

In the picture below, our Year 6 teachers are modelling some key mathematical concepts in Area. During this lesson, the teachers expanded on what the children already knew about finding the area of rectangles to assist them in understanding how to calculate the area of parallelograms and triangles.
