Updates around the college

Louise Mellington - Acting Assistant Principal 7-12

Dear Families and community members,

There has been much happening at Kyabram P-12 College in the last fortnight.

Year 12 Graduation

Our Year 12 students graduated on Friday 17 November.  What a great night this was with students meeting at the Moama Soundshell for photos with friends and family. The students then rode on a horse and cart to the Moama Bowling Club. This event signifies the end of 13 years of schooling for students and for many families this night saw the last of their children finish their schooling. We look forward to seeing what the future brings for our Year 12 students and know that they have a bright future ahead of them.

Art Exhibition

On November 16, we saw the opening of the Art and Technology showcase of the art work and technology projects that our students at P-12 have done. It was fantastic to see parents come along as well as the staff who brought their classes over to visit the display.

Those who attended were able to vote for the People Choice Awards at Years P-6, Years 7-10 and Years 11-12.

HPV – Human Powered Vehicle

Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 November saw our College take a junior and a senior team to the 2023 Energy Breakthrough in Maryborough.

The Energy Breakthrough has provided opportunities for students, teachers, parents and local industry to work together to design and construct a vehicle, a machine or innovation in technology that will represent an ‘energy breakthrough’.

The program is unique in that all teams must compete across three areas of assessment: Design and Construction, Display and Presentation and Trials.

The Energy Breakthrough isn’t just a once-a-year event. School groups work throughout the year to design, build and test machines within detailed specifications.

The program encourages participants to examine and use the latest technology while considering its impact on the environment and the way people live locally and globally.  It requires a team effort and an across-the-curriculum approach.

Our students displayed great resilience in trying conditions over the weekend.

During the 8 hour race we saw the senior team doing 131 laps over 8 hours covering 207 kms.  The senior team finished 4th. Our junior team finished in 8th position doing 98 laps covering a distance of 155 kms.

In the time trials our Mechanical Fury team finished 5th and the Kyabram junior team finished 7th. In the obstacle course Mechanical Fury came 1st  with the Kyabram junior team finishing 7th. This is an awesome result for all teams and they should be proud of their efforts.

A huge thank you goes to Lionel Curling who has worked with these students during the year and after school, and to the parents and sponsors who all make such an event possible.
